I have a Dell XPS M140 and I reformatted, but I don't know how to get Dell Media Direct working again...

This is the one that can turn on the laptop without booting to watch movies etc...

    Please help

Media Direct is really catchy, to get it to work properly you might need to reinstall Windows again, why? Because Media Direct has its own partition, and the current partition of media direct is most likely damaged, so you will have to start over, install Media Direct first, then Windows, by this I mean to boot from the Media Direct CD and follow the instructions, once the process is done you will be able to install Windows, and then after Windows finishes installing you will have to finish the Media Direct installation on Windows.

Nb what sort of a reformat did you do?

You can only re-install the media direct, you can't install it, as in (if you use external software and format the entire disk to blank and then try to install the media direct you're going to have problems)

It only works if you use the media direct dvd to format the hard-drive (though if you get on to dell they'll give you the installation key for media direct)

I loathe dell media direct. I recommend that you do some research and read the guides on it. Although to be honest that information may not help. Currently I'm waiting for a factory image hard drive because no matter what I do media direct won't install correct and it corrupts my partition table and remaps the power button and media direct button.

In your case you need to install media direct prior to installing the operating system. If you've installed the operating system without following that proceedure then I recommend not pressing the media direct button. You can blow your partitions that way.

    The only solution is:

Insert media direct and install it, erasing all your data

    Install operating system

    Install drivers

    restart

    Install Media direct in windows
