Do you know if Dell has successfully addressed and fixed their Nvidia problems, particularly in their EPX line?
    Thank you.

Risco, sorry for not being clearer. I have an XPS 1530 that stopped working due to the defective graphics card (Nvidia). This defective part made the press in 2009 I think and involved several of Dell laptops. Dell was fixing the defect for customers but the 'fix' did not work for many and computers stopped working again. I want to be sure this defective Nvidia graphics GPU is no longer being used. Thx.

There are no M1530 boards with "fixed" Nvidia chips. Dell will try to convince you that there are, but there are tons of people who have had the board replaced multiple times and have had all the replacements fail as well.

IIRC only "fixed" chip is the NVS 140M, Quadro card based off the GeForce G84M core. Unfortunately this is only in business laptops like T61p or Dell Latitude D830/D630. Even then I would void anything Nvidia from the 06-early 08 era really.

Thanks so much CW and TH, What I need to make sure is that any replacement laptop must not have a Nvidia card at all. Maybe Intel would work. Thanks
Once again. I'm so discouraged at this point and having to 'borrow a friend"s laptop.
Thank goodness for good people. Back to the drawing board for me.

If you do get a replacement laptop and it is NOT a XPS 1530, then the nvidia card should be fine. For example, if they happen to give you a XPS 15, the video cards in that computer will be fine.

I used to have a xps 1530. They sent me a XPS 15 (L501x) system replacement and havent had any problems

nVidia made a balls up a few years ago. However, they have always made the best desktop and especially mobile cards. The same rings true today with their optimus tech that is far superior to AMD offering and ensures great battery life and performance.

Dear Conscriptvirus, Thank you writing and giving me the name of the replacement Dell sent you. I'm going to check it out right. Your input is very appreciated. Thank you again.

    YMMV

Generally, dell doesnt give you a system replacement until you've had like 3 repairs on the laptop. If you do get a system replacement, you'll probably get a different laptop. I heard someone got a 15z or a L502x

This thread has alot of people's experiences with system replacements. It's very long but you can see what people did to get a replacement.
