Have any of you ever purchased a laptop from the Dell Outlet?

My only REAL concern is I have a thing for keeping my electronics in stunning condition, and the LAST thing I want to do is place an order for an M1530 and have it arrive with blemishes ect.

I have read stories where people got a "BRAND NEW" laptop from the outlet. I may suck it up and spend the extra few hundred bucks for peace of mind, but I wanna weigh the "omg the outlet was terrible" posts versus the "dude, I grabbed an XPS from the outlet, saved $400, and it looked just like a brand new one" posts.

    Thanks.

I don't know if you just read one of my threads, but i'm going to buy a m1530 through dell's outlet store. Every time i upgrade my laptop, buying and selling a refurbished laptop can save you a pretty penny. See it this way, would you rather have a better computer with all the bells and whistles and everything max that has been in someone else's hands for a week or two, or a new computer that is a basic model that does not have all the bell's and whistles?

Ok, look at it my way: Take laptops, and put them into "Rental car" mode. Would you go to Enterprise and say "HEY MAN, let me buy that cadillac" or would you rather just go to the dealer to get what you WANT and KNOW what you're getting?

Think about it, 2 weeks in the hands of a dirtbag is a LONG time my friend. My issue is, I don't even want a scratch on my notebook, and if I put one on it, I can beat myself up instead of someone else. I think I'll do a trial run, order one, and if it looks like a rental car, I'll send it back. :\

Also, you can't keep everything in stunning condition forever. If you bought a refurbished computer with even with blemishes, within a month you would have created other blemishes that would have been on a new computer if you bought that instead. After the first month after your computer looses its stunning condition if it were new, does it really matter where and who the blemishes came from? And even then, there's a possibility that this computer from dell's outlet will be stunning condition as well. I would take $400 dollars if someone put dent s in my computer. Its worth it.

Another thing pushing me toward the outlet is: Dell came up with this "Product Red" crap where they send my money somewhere for something, and completely got rid of the color Red on a regular XPS laptop. I can get a crimson red XPS on the outlet, but I can't get one through Dell unless I pay an extra few hundred so they can send some money to wherever.

If I want to make a donation, I will. Don't take the hottest color in a notebook, and FORCE people to have to go that route. This is ridiculous. May have to settle for Tux black.

Again..If you have a laptop for a month, and blemish it, that's your bad. If you BUY ONE WITH BLEMISHES, THAN blemish it AGAIN during the month you own it, you've got yourself a severely blemished laptop as opposed to just some blemishes.

I have a sony digital camera that I bought 2 years ago for $400. To this very moment even the screen is in MINT condition. showroom like. and my wife uses it ALL day taking pics of the kids and whatever she wants to do.

Accidents HAPPEN, but do you want to buy an accident?

And like you said, you can buy it from the outlet in MINT condition, but there's a CHANCE it will be mint. +, my thread was for someone to say "yep, got an xps right here from the outlet and its perfect". Certified refurbished should also replace any bumpers or tops that have visible damage.

Every outlet notebook I've bought has looked like new, even the box and packing. I'd check to make sure it's really cheaper, though. When I bought mine, it was actually cheaper to get what I wanted new, with available discounts.

Well, already the outlet is cheaper based on the fact that I cannot get red starting at $999. When I build what I want its like $1400+, outlets got em for $1,000-1,200..

Rental cars are vehicles that have been driven hard, on purpose, by multiple people. A better analogy would be a used car. For a new car, as so as you drive it off the lot, you loose thousands of dollars instantly. Why pay that money? I'll probably call a dell salesman and negotiate on a outlet computer. With your kind out perfection and attitude about this, i bet you can make him lower his price big time. Remember, it's only an asking price.

2.0ghz, 3gb ram, 256mb vid card, 250g HD=1,069. My concern is, there are 15 other laptops with the SAME exact specs (maybe less 1bg ram) that cost more. I'm making the assumption dell prices them as they look. so $1,069 will get you blemishes, while 1,200 will get you nice and clean.

just received Red, T7500, 3GB, 200GB 7200rpm, WXGA+ from outlet all for $1200. It looks brand new without any scratches. It was a sweet deal and I don't see a point paying a premium for a "new" one...

btw, I ordered it last Thursday and got it today. Super fast delivery.

I thought the same thing. I bet it's true. When i'm going to buy through the outlet, i'm not going to buy the cheapest among the few computers with the same specs.

This is not true, they are not pricing them based on "condition", but based on a lot of factors... you just listed basic hardware specs, but you didn't take a look at what options they have, some have Vista Ultimate, some Premium, some 6 cell battery, others 9 cell, also screen resolution makes a difference too and there are 3 options... So, NO, they are not pricing them based on "condition".

You're wrong Klas lol. There's hundreds of them in the outlet, I counted 15 that were EXACTLY the same, give or take 1 gig of ram. the 3 gig system was 1069, while the 2 gig system with the SAME specs was 1,100.

Notice how I said give or take 1 gig of ram. but tell me how 3 gigs of RAM and the EXACT same specs cost less than 2 gigs of ram? 1 gig of ram for 10's of dollars less? who wouldn't take it?

Anyway, another tidbit would be: Haggling on outlet laptops? my social engineering game is locked, but I didn't know they would do that.

first of all there are only 95 of 1530 in the outlet store, not hundreds like you claim, second of all you need to click on the details and see what software it has installed and other options selected, third of all show me which 2 notebooks with identical specs have different prices as you claim and I will tell you that I was wrong

I agree. No big issue, was just wondering.

Now my other thing, I'm wondering if I could bang out a system to spec with one of the outlet ones and see how much of a price knockoff i can get. I got $130 or so off my 1721, and maybe I'll throw the "I'm a previous customer" "I'll just buy sony/hp" at them. It's just me I guess, I'd rather spec out a brand new one and have the rep knock it off to the price of an outlet one..but the question rises once again: Can I haggle a rep on an outlet and get one for under 1k?

btw I apologize Klas, those little things like software mean nothing to me, but the battery and such are little nice upgrades for the small price.

    No worries!

Think about it logically, they get 1000s of items back each day and if they'll start evaluating condition of each of those laptops and price it accordingly they'll increase their overhead costs...

well, I missed 15% off outlet coupon, so I kinda bummed about it, but I am still happy that price is so low if compared to brand new one.

Also, I tried to see if they'll offer me discount if I decide to return it, but it appears to only work on new systems. Anyway, I am happy with what I got for now.

I'm also interested in buying from the Dell Outlet, for the same system. The advice on this thread is great. I'm waiting for the 15% off or the LED screen for the notebook to make an appearence in the outlet store. Just wanted to let you guys know that. :)

I got my XPS M1530 about a week ago from the outlet. There are no scratches, it looks brand new. I highly recommend the outlet if your looking to save some cash.. I'm def buying from the outlet again.

    what screen did you get?

btw, my WXGA+ LG is amazing. I am comparing it to my Acer 5920G which seems dull in comparison. Finally, white actually looks WHITE!

Been reading some of what you posted... I'm a LOT like you... I like my stuff "flawless" and regardless of what others say here, you CAN keep it that way. I do. I had to go the tuxedo black route myself when I wanted red... (I didn't go outlet, but the business part won't let you order red either) but, I'm going to paint it metalic red anyway. The way it is, it would be fairly easy to do. You'll know what I'm talking about when you see yours. Anyway, providing you get one without blemishes, Your gonna love it! Here is mine:

Sleek little matching color carrying case man. You pay extra for that? I don't believe it comes with one. I'm going to be doing haggling and make my purchase today.

    I want a Crimson one.
Keep refreshing every 5 mins at work , they sure put some machines through the UK outlet site, it chages by the minute.

Yet to find a crimson one though :(

I bought a M1530 on tuesday, i'm awaiting its arrival. I got a little worried yesterday. I noticed the service tag was on my recipt, and i looked it up on the Dell site.... it was a swedish unit! With swedish keyboard, i emailed them and was told that by the time i get it it would have an english keyboard and will of been refurbished and checked fully. Which is good to hear.

I bought one last week...a refurb that is.

I don't recommend getting over 1GB of ram as it drives the price up considerably. I recommend saving the money on the Ram and purchasing it from Newegg for 4GB for 80 or so dollars.

I got a T7700, 1GB ram, 120GB 7200rpm, 8600GT, bluetooth, wireless n, and 9 cell battery for a couple of bucks over $1000. So all together with taxes and extra ram I got it for around 1100...all I have to say is GREAT DEAL!!!

My 1530 arrived yesterday, i'm pretty impressed, i can only see one slight rub spot which would suggest it was shipped about a bit, but it seems new in all respects, came with the XPS goodies, but no slip case?

Does the case come with UK XPS laptops?

One issue... i have a 2pin PSU and i feel buzzing on the ALU areas... i'm currently on the phone to dell...

    Hokum,

Mine arrived yesterday, it also came with no slip case or LCD Cleaning Cloth, all other stuff was there.

I also have the same issue, I feel a buzzing on the ALU area, but only when the PSU is plugged in ???? I got the standard UK 3-pin plug.

Could you let me know how you get on with Dell on your issue. I'm gonna ring Dell later today.

    Hi Devastator,
It has a three pin plug, BUT the lead which attaches to the PSU itself is only two pin. We use alot of dell kit at work and happened to have an old PA-10 with the 3 pin plug, when i tried that i didnt get the "buzz", I got through to XPS support, and i have a PSU on its way to me now.

The engineer agreed this is a known issue... I've also asked how i can get a slip case :)

Ah, that's good info about the PSU. What was the answer to the slip case question? How do I get one?

What screen did you get and are you happy with it?
I'm going to be ringing them early afternoon. What number did you ring for XPS Support?

I'll post back this afternoon how I get on?

I just received my M1530 from the outlet! The screen is fantastic! I have the 1400x900 lg screen. Also, I don't have any problems with the touchpad as some have reported. Once I turned the sensitivity up it is fine. Other than the refurbished sticker on the bottom I would not be able to tell the difference between this one and a brand new one. I did get the headphones, but I am missing the sleeve and the LOTR game. It did have a couple smudges on the lid, but they wiped of in 2 seconds. After my first 30 minutes with it I am really impressed! Any questions don't hesitate to ask. I'll try my best to answer.
