    I was thinking of replacing my cpu with an Core i7 if possible? has anyone tried it out yet?

    nm i guess, just found out.

    current models only have socket pga478 while the core i7 uses socket pga 988

    Not going to happen. It's a whole new socket and chipset for the i7. You'd have to at the very least replace the motherboard, and Dell doesn't make an i7 motherboard for the 1340.
