Yeah, google cache showed the page as being up on Nov7 or before when I checked originally. Its definitely been up a while, but at least it shows they are getting ready for a new release.

If they can't get a new laptop to the market for the holiday season, I don't think they would announce it anytime this year. Its a month before xmas now, so basically I think if we don't see some new laptops in these next days, that's it, were not going to see them at all until the new year.

Please guys, simple request to only post on topic in this thread. If we allow off topic posts in this thread, the thread will become diluted with useless info like the older thread was.

If you want to be free to post (almost) anything you like I suggest to start a thread in the Off topic forum.

And if you don't like the rules on NBR please not use this thread to communicate it. Use PM or start a thread in the appropriate forum.

One has to wonder what makes them delaying the launch of new models till late January or even early February. With the time it takes them to build and ship models you'd probably won't have one until late February.

A MacBook Pro it is then.

Shame that there will be no new XPS models any time soon.
I might wait anyways, but I think we will need a new thread - Studio XPS 13/16 alternatives.. ;) or this thread will get closed soon..

Yes, for the tech savvy segment of their market I would imagine they are losing some potential buyers due to the wait

    - But for those customers that aren't quite in the know, the sort of people who have no knowledge of nor interest in the term Montevina (I would imagine a fairly large percentage of dell's home customer base) having the newest platform is of no consequence in their decision to purchase.

So I would Imagine Dell is still selling quite a few of its studios, and xps'. So there would be no logical reason for Dell to merely burn or dispose of its stockpile of slightly older machines, if they can sell them at a high price well after a year since the systems originally came out.

Though it does suck for those of us waiting.

yes but the studio GPU...is not the same than the XPS 1530...and i have seen that the T9300 is better than the P8400, and the difference between the 8600 GT is not a lot than the 9600GT...

    the price is very interesting...

If price is not an issue, the Sony Z would be a nice alternative. I ordered the Z540 CTO last night for $2,100 after a $250 discount and should get it after 12/05. I can't wait until Jan/Feb. for the M1340. Now I still need a larger notebook so Dell might still get my business for the M1640. I can use my new Z until then. I'll probably wait, but you never know.

The problem is Dell hasn´t say a word yet, we are waiting just for smoke, there is nothing real, just some dreamy pictures. I don´t know if those can keep me waiting for that long, I think Dell should announce their new line, normal constumers wouldn't even notice that, and we would have something to wait for.

Perhaps Dell is afraid that enough of their "normal" customers might find out (better term might be "average" customers since most of us here are "above average" :D ).

Anyway, I just found out that the first Sony Z refresh (model change from Z5xx to Z6xx) is coming sooner than I expected, like maybe next week. The update to Bluetooth 2.1 is one change. It looks like I'm canceling tomorrow.

They definitely don't want to let too many people know that new notebooks are coming because that would kill their holiday sales and hopefully redeem themselves for the year. But at the same time they are losing customers since they are just offering the same old thing.

    Jayson,
Did you learn anything in your webcast about the XPS notebooks replacment, other than it will not be out this year?
I was wondering, if I decided to wait until Jan/Feb, would it be worth the wait. Are there any cool features on the next laptops that you know of?

Do not assume that just because a roadmap on slides which no one can truly confirm are official slides says XPS1530 production ends in Nov, that it will actually end in Nov. Products always get released/delayed/cancelled/changed in development, so even if that roadmap is actually from Dell as most of us believe, things change, nothing is set in stone.

It would be nice for Dell to release some official news, but the lack of news just kinda indicates they're just covering themselves. Hopefully, all this extra wait time, they're actually spending productively, by doing things like increasing the cooling capacity of the new units or maybe even more power efficient, maybe better screens?

Though... I'm kinda of the opinion that they'll just shove old XPS1330 and 1530 parts in... and what you're really buying is a 1330 or a 1530 with a nicer outer casing (subjective) and new Montevina tech.

Dell priorities totally messed up. They should be releasing news about the Studio XPS laptops which will earn them money NOW, rather than news about a sweet looking baton laptop which I'd say is a very long long ways away.

I bought the "old" m1330 as a gift for one person, for only $1300 (4GB RAM, 128 MB Video, 250 GB 7200rpm HDD, Bluetooth, etc.) I'd say get the "old" one if you can't wait. As for myself, I'll wait till February, no big deal. I looked at Sony Z, but the tray-loading optical drive *sucks*, I want the elegant slot-loading that XPS has. Plus, as always, Sony is way too overpriced. I'll wait, anyways...

It's like this, I bought an XPS M1330 in August 2007. The same model has hasn't been redesigned in 16 months. That's rediculous. Sure a Studio XPS 1340 is out there somewhere, but its old news now, come on! I'll be going Apple or HP when I spend my next $2000 on a laptop, take that Dell.

Doesn't mean anything, other than that they have no refurbished units right now. You can find plenty discontinued models on there, so they'll still be selling the 1330/1530 long after they replace them with the 1340/1640. With the way Dell is moving here, I'm sure that'll be sometime around the time we get flying cars.

Really Dell...Just give us something here.

You do know, besides that leak on the website, we still haven't got any actual proof from Dell that they will release a Studio XPS 1340 and 1640.

Unless someone could point me to that info?

One quesstion for dell now is "Would there be a benefit to release the laptops now?"

Yes christmas is around the corner, and black friday is over, so it is possible dell moved some of the older stock out of the way. But maybe dell is afraid that the slow down might affect new product sales and people may not spend extra on something new, when they would rather save and get something almost as good for much cheaper. But then if sales are not dropping that much or are flat, dell can always wait for next year to release the new laptops.

this is a good read on dell
    http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/business/story/0,28124,24724535-36418,00.html

it has some good points such as
Even though the new models are ready there might be something holding them back from being released? perhaps the factories are having issues or suppliers not being ready?

    hehe found this funny btw
    :D

I still think dell is waiting for a january show for these laptops, most likely at CES. And dell does not want to dish out early info on new products right now, why? well simple this would basically kill any sales of older stock while people wait for newer products which are just around the corner, think the new macs, most people were on the fence whether to hold out for the new ones or buy the stock on sale.

In the end I still think dell has a weird and messed up release schedule with the centrino 2 cpus only recently being added to the lineup.

sorry for the rant, maybe we need another thread devoted to "why hasn't dell released info on the new xps laptops?" :D

The fact that every single competitor has both 13 and 15 inch models with the latest innards out on the market pretty much killed sales of the 13 and 1530 ages ago. The fact is, no consumer need wait. The products are out there and have been for quite some time. So why do Dell? They are cannabalising their own userbase. By the time the Studio XPS notebooks launch, everyone who had wanted one will have already purchased something else!

Now, fair enough if they aren't launching them until next year. There must be good reason. But not having atleast announced/confirmed them by now is just complete madness.

apple's mb series are direct rivals of xps series, the slides showed that new xps would use same nvidia chipset; okay i can cherish hopes for hybrid sli in 1340 cause i believe there is enough space for it but come on tech specs will be almost the same so what is the deal? what holding dell back? their financial performance was nice recently but things are changing rapidly like in nvidia-ati case. they should take care of core competitors.
