    Hi guys,

I have a Dell SXPS 1340, that does not power on any more, either with or without the battery installed. Get no lights or fan noises at all completely dead.

AC/adapter is fine, works on other Dell laptops.
Battery is fine, works on another 1340

Any guesses as to what part may need replacing, l was thinking motherboard and can pick one up for 130-160 GBP. But would like to be sure that it is the correct part needed before buying.

Thanks for you help in advance.

I think you can fairly confidently say the motherboard is dead. At this point you may want to consider parting out the unit and buying a new machine, too.

The Dell SXPS 13 broke last year and l immediately replaced it with an Asus N53SV.

Still have it sitting around and dont mind spending a small bit of money to get it working again. Pass it onto a nephew or something.

I see there are two different types of motherboard discrete and UMA, l have the the hybrid SLI version, any ideas on which one to pick?

    Hi guys,

Just to give you an update l have replaced the motherboard, but still get the same symptons. No power, no LEDs, no Fan movement, completly dead.

Is there some other part that could need replacing? I don't want to let this laptop beat me. ;)

    Hi G00ner,

Just wondering if you ever got to the bottom of what was causing the power loss as my 1340 has the same issue and I also thought it was the motherboard until I read your post?
    Thanks,
    Jethro
