Can anyone show me how the 15.6" screen looks in the 16" laptop? I'm talking about the area at the borders.
thanks in advance.

Ehh what page?
PS. that links links to this thread. -
what does that mean? :S
-
He means he wants to see how the 15.6" screen looks in the Studio XPS 16, because the XPS 16 is designed for a 16" screen.
He's just curious how 'bad' the 15.6" screen looks in there, because you will get ugly black borders.. At least that's what I'm thinkin -
Yes Base909 you're exactly right. Thanks for clarifying.
-
i meant x2p's post hehe...i know what phil meant
-
So can someone show it? Or tell what it's all about?
-
I'm sure it looks good still. Its still Edge to Edge 15.6 so it shouldnt be that big of a difference honestly
-
That link shows no pictures of the 15.6" screen.
Does anyone have any pictures of the 15.6" screen????
Thanks! -
Oh come on.. There must be people out there with that screensize in their XPS 16
-
Honestly, I can't imagine anyone doing this. It would look like a frankenstudio. Besides, WHY would anyone do this?
-
Because there are 3 options in the USA. 2 are 15.6" and the other one, the rgbled wich costs 250 dollar more, is 16".
So I can imagine 80% of the people who will buy the XPS 16 with a 15.6" screen rather dan paying 250 bucks more for something that they don't know about what it is -
I think 80%+ of the people would rather have a nice 16" monitor in a 16" laptop, rather than a 15.6" monitor in a 16" laptop... Otherwise, buy a Studio 15, and save $$.
But, good luck. -
Dell has changed the options available. Now the base option and mid option for the screen are 15.6", only the RGBLED is 16".
-
Someone should have this. Pictures please.
-
Somebody please
..
-
Somebody has got to have it right?
-
I appreciate your enthusiasm but bumping a thread is not allowed within 24 hours.
-
Maybe the best is to request pictures from Dell itself? Seems only logical that they can provide an accurate image of what you order, if it's now indeed is different from the RGBLED.
-
I'm now VERY interested in this notebook with the base screen. Would like to see it too.
-
The 16" screen is one of the best screens EVER offered in a laptop by any maker. Save up your allowance and get it. There are many posts from people who wished they did.
-
Can you give us some links to those comments/topics? Would appreciate that
-
The biggest selling point of this laptop is the 16" RGB LED display. If you forego that, why even bother purchasing this laptop? Get an Asus for half the price with a better video card and a crap display.
-
At $1300 without the RGBLED, I think it's a good price. Of course, in the US, you can get something better but not for me and other folks in Canada (importing adds about 25% to the price btw)
-
Because it looks nice.
And can't imagine the w-led screen is such a pain in the
Sure it's less beautiful than the RGBLED, but it's not crap right
-
I have the RGBLED but there is some things to remember.
¤ RGB drinks more battery then WLED
¤ RGB is quite difficult to get 100% accurate colour saturation on, (especially red colour-spectra)
¤ the WLED screen is still veeeeery good. (better then ordinary CCFL, thats for sure). so if you not want to pay this £300 extra and looking for the wled screen, dont be afraid its bad, because it isnt.
edit. soon OLED (Toshiba for example) comes to laptop, and it will be even better then RGB. (my humble opinion) -
Hm let's make some calls to Dell to see what they can do with the price
-
bump bump bump
-
Does this mean that every SXPS 16 owner has the RGB LED screen?
-
I think not many have received their 15.6" screens as they recently added them and it takes time for Dhell to get these made and shipped.
-
I'm not lying, the ONLY reason to consider to purchase this laptop is to get RGBLED screen.
I know because I am looking to return my hp dv3t just because screen sucks compare to my desktop IPS LCD.
To me, screen is the MOST important spec followed by graphic card. -
To me screen is important too. But the 1080p WLED is a good screen too.
Actually I'm more into contrast rates than colours. While the colours on the RGB LED are the best, the contrast rate are not that special: 435:1 http://www.notebookjournal.de/tests/inspection/dell-studio-xps-16-790 -
TBH, the RGBLED colors are way over saturated. Also, the contrast is pretty bad. I've got it, so I know.
I'm gonna step out and risk getting smashed, but I think the WLED (1080p) is a better screen. -
I think you are partly right about the contrast. Although calling it bad is a bit strong.
About the colors: your screen probably needs calibration. -
I haven't seem anyone of this forum successfully calibrate to correct the Reds properly. I've tried several things without luck getting it just right. But, it's still nice even though it's not perfect.
It's got a lot of light bleeding on each edge of the screen. I've had three systems so far, and they've been all the same as far as screen colors, contrast, bleeding, etc. They seem to take a little time from being new to fully bleed. -
I'll quote Anadtech:
BTW Anandtech measured a contrast ratio of 500:1. -
I agree anything above 500:1 is very hard/impossible to notice. But both Notebookjournal and Notebookcheck measured the RGB LED screen below 500:1.
The question is also did Anandtech measure the contrast rate at full brightness or 100 cd/m. The latter would be the important value. -
Just orderd mine with 15.6" WLED. Let's hope it looks nice and smooth
-
Still nobody?
-
Base, can you post pics when it arrives? I am dying to see one and contemplating selling my studio 1555 for a xps16
-
My SXPS is underway as well (with 15.6" WLED). Will post screens when it arrives.
-
I also ordered mine with the 15.6" screen.
It has already been delivered to a friends place and I'll put my hands on it in 6 weeks.
I'd also like to see how it looks like though.
Looking forward to have a look at your pics.
Thanks guys! -
My SXPS with 15.6" HD WLED is arriving in two days. Let's wait and see.
-
I'm interested to hear the difference in battery life between the 16 inch RGBLED and the 15.6 inch WLED. If battery life is significantly better, I'd definitely go for the 15.6 inch. If anyone with a 15.6 could post their battery life after it arrives I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Rayt -
Will do. Mine comes within 2 weeks. Hope it will be a bit sooner.
Im looking forward to your pictures Kellhus! -
the 15.6" screen is backordered... I would know because I ordered 7/22 and it has been delayed three times, 8/6, 8/12, and now 8/26
I've been expedited twice btw
I'm getting a $100 discount "for my troubles".. I can't believe i'm having to wait over a month, I should cancel this sht -
If that's true, mine is getting canceled too....
But for I have heard, the 15.6" is in stock and the 16" RGB is delayed for a few days. A Dell salesman told me that (before I made the decision for wich screen i was gonna take)
Edit, I see you've orderd the 900p screen. I've orderd the 1080p screen
We only have 1080p screens and a 720p screen in Holland.
The 900p is yet to come here -
I've been back and forth with dell for a week... what I was told is all 15.6" screens were backordered from the manufacturer, I was told by a new rep that wasn't working with me that every screen for the XPS was backordered including the RGB but I find that extremely hard to believe, my guess is both the 1080p and 900p 15.6 were backordered, but I can only say for 100% certain that the 900p is back in stock as of this morning but now they are filling those 10 days of orders that were sitting at the front of the queues waiting to be built but couldn't because of the screen availability, meaning every order should get delayed, at least that is how my sales rep explained it to me after I told him I would cancel

I think Studios for the US are manufactured in a different plant than European ones. European one are manufactured in Poland.
