    Hello everyone!

Problem #1: So about a week ago I noticed that the opening hinge on the left side of the laptop was not attached from the base of the lid. I keep trying to push it back but it comes out again. It seems the glue for it was already drying up or something. It looks like it can be fixed with some glue but sucks that its not staying =(

Problem #2: Also, apparently last week my webcam stopped working on me. The webcam would cease to work in Skype and MSN and would appear as an Unknown Device in device manager. Tried reinstalling the drivers but that didn't work. It started to work randomly again a few days ago "somehow" but now it stopped again.

My 1640 is only 4 months old and it's already falling apart! Lucky for me I'm on my third year of my warranty with one left. The hinge is easy but I was wondering if anyone had the same thing too and also is there a fix for the webcam? That'd be awesome cause hauling around my logitech looks dorky.

I had that exact same issue happen.. the left side of the hinge had the popping out.. identical to your picture. I called Dell and they replaced my screen. I would contact dell and since you're under warranty, a replacement screen should fix both issues

My 1645 came brand new with the same loose left hinge problem that you have (though not as bad as in your pic, yet...) It's not bad enough to bother me, I'll probably just put a drop of superglue on it and call it good.

Mine it's the same, but it happened after the laptop fell from my back bag in the bus.

I'm experiencing the same problem with my Studio 1735, on the left side too! Thankfully I bought the three year extended warranty which expire in September this year. Having done a bit of research on the matter I'm gobsmacked by how widespread broken hinges are. It has certainly made me take a second thought about upgrading my laptop this summer for another Dell. From a consumer point of view it's a punishing defect that is expensive to fix. I mean, who wants to spend £150 or so pounds repairing a 1-3 years old laptop that's out of warranty. I filed a warranty claim an hour ago and will probably be responded to by Dell tomorrow.

There is no way I'm forking over money to get this repaired. A laptop should not fall apart like this, especially one costing me just under £1,000.

Oh hey. I have that hinge issue too. But I have invisible shield on me laptop T.T so I'm going to wait until my warranty is almost done to call it in for replacement monitor.

I too had the same problem, screen replaced under warranty, but both hinge covers have come loose again.
