    Dell Studio XPS 1640 processor change...

    Will it be possible to manually upgrade the processor of the 1640? I'm not sure what exactly to look at to see if this is possible...

    I might want to upgrade to the P8700 for better battery or a T9800.

    Unless you have money to blow, an upgrade wouldn't really do you much good in terms of increase in performance for the cost.

    Well, if you do the upgrade and decide to sell your processor that you take out, it'll make up for it. The lowest processor it comes with is the P8400...which you could probably move quickly for about $140 - $175 on eBay.

    In order to upgrade to the 2.53 T9400 it'll cost $175 extra in itself if you order directly from Dell. Now that they have the P8700 and even new 2.93 processors, it would be beneficial and cost effective to upgrade.

    Warranty is still valid for everything except what you replace, according to people having past experience with Dell on NBR. Call Dell if you have any questions.
