Hi guys, I got this dell studio xps 1645 at the moment.
I've got major problem on this laptop.
Without the charger, this laptop turns on fine.
It goes to Windows 7, loads properly, able to do work and all and its good.
With the charger, this laptop keeps getting the blue screen error.
it just keeps restarting and sometimes it just shuts down by itself.
I read somewhere that it's because it's HOT or something to do with the throtlle thingy, I don't know.
What I wish to seek help is.
What can I do in order to improve it's condition?
Like, update the BIOS?
How do you check if the adaptor is the 130 type and not the 90?
I've been searching and havent found any solution with regards to this.
-
What are the temperatures as reported by HWMonitor when plugged in?
As for the adapter type, what is the Voltage and Amperage that is listed on the sticker of the AC adapter? (e.g. 19.5V 4.7A which is probably 90 Watt) -
Im using the program Core Temp 1.0 RC3 at the moment.
It says;
Tj. Max 100 C
Core #0 91 C
As for the adapter, it says
Model: FA130PE1-00
INPUT: 100-240V 50-60Hz 2.3A
OUTPUT: (19.5V) 6.7A -
If the computer isn't doing much, 91C is very hot. HWMonitor should be able to give you temperatures of more components in your laptop. Perhaps you need to open up your laptop and clean it of dust etc.
Service manual is easily available: Documentation (one of my favourite things about Dell). -
Did that already.
Update:
Also, the CPU usage is at 100%
It's ridiculous.
I've read somewhere that it's about the throtlling issue thingy?
There was a discussion here somewhere about that but it was back
in 2011. All the download links are down.
For example, this thread;
http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-xps-studio-xps/446193-s-xps-1645-throttling-info-updates.html
Btw, do I have a 90W or a 130W power supply? -
-
ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting
didnt say anything about 90W or 130W
The only thing it says about 130 is the model I guess.
But I can't be sure. -
I've got plenty of problems with this laptop now.
I just switched it on again, it loads to windows,
and right now it doesnt detect any drivers.
My sound driver is gone
Cannot load windows aero theme
cannot connect to internet -
Now in the future you know how to figure it out -
So I've got 130W at the moment.
I've already updated my bios to the latest A07.
And i'm still having lots of problems with this laptop.
Any suggestions? -
Try clean your laptops cooling system of dust.
-
Make sure your cooling fan is working
-
If you have the ATI 4670 graphics card then I highly recommend using A09 (if you have the 5730 then go for A13). However, the BIOS update by itself probably won't fix your serious sounding problems.
