Lots of posts on TB15 docks not working. I thought the TB16 deserved "a fresh start"... since it does work well (even though the AC adapter and TB16 dock are a Huge Kludge (and heavy!) compared to the HP TB3 Dock and AC adapter).
To install a TB16, use Dell Support Assist to update BIOS and typical drivers (DSA won't update any TB drivers until after TB drivers are initially installed manually), then, in this exact order:
- Install the latest Intel Thunderbolt Controller Driver for the system. This is available in the "Chipset" section of Drivers & Downloads.
- Install the latest Intel Thunderbolt 3 Firmware Update for the system. This is available in the "Chipset" section.
- Install the latest Intel HD Graphics Driver for the system. This is available in the "Video" section.
- Install the latest ASMedia USB 3.0 Extended Host Controller Driver for Dell Thunderbolt Dock. This is available in the "Docks & Stands" section.
- Install the latest RealTek USB GBE Ethernet Controller Driver for Dell Thunderbolt Dock and Dell Dock. This is available in the "Docks & Stands" section.
- Install the latest RealTek USB Audio Driver for Dell Thunderbolt Dock and Dell Dock. This is available in the "Docks & Stands" section.
- Restart the system.
- After the software update process completes, connect the AC adapter to the TB16 dock first and then attach the Thunderbolt 3 (Type C) cable to the computer before using the docking station.
- A popup for a new Thunderbolt device will appear. Select "Always Connect" for both the Thunderbolt Cable and the Thunderbolt Dock. You can always navigate to the Thunderbolt device management by right-clicking the TB icon in the system tray, and selecting Manage or Approve.
The XPS AC adapter will not power the TB16 Dock: different DC tip sizes and wattage ratings.

Rather than packing the Huge Kludge, I highly recommend buying a compatible USB-C dongle if you travel with an XPS 9350, 9550, or higher. This dongle has proven very reliable:

This thing is completely useless -> 1 x HDMI@4K 30HZ and no Display Port.

The only reasonably compact TB3 thing I've seen is the Hyperdrive, but it has a mac-special dual TB3 input, its HDMI is again 4K@30Hz, up to 2x4K@60Hz only over TB3 output, requiring another DP adapter; And another USB dongle needed for wired Ethernet. I hope 3rd parties come up with more TB3 devices. -
