    Hi All,

I just had a word with a DELL Rep. The DELL India has taken down the i7 series of processors from their XPS laptops.

And, the thing is, that my 1645 was already shipped in for replacement (Ref Signature).

Now all they are offering are Core 2 duo processors with basic configurations. I am being told DELL is planning to launch (new/improved?) series of laptops in 5-10 days, at par / or a part of the XPS range (I can't confirm this though).

Any pointers, please post in here!!

Edit: (I feel so cheated and don't know what to do... If i manage to get back my money, what can I get as a comparably good system in India / U.S.?)

    C.K.

Dude, there are plenty of other laptops you can get that are comparable, but get your priorities straight. "If"? Focus on getting your money back first.

Yes they are launching a new model, but the 15 version may be inferior to the XPS 1645/7 in some aspects. Refer to the new thread.

If you get a high end C2D that's fine. If not, nothing will be comparable to your i7 quad other than an i7 quad. Dell will probably be able to return your laptop - which means you won't be getting any money.

What are you even saying? Just because they stopped selling i7 XPS 16s doesn't mean they won't fix and return your computer - they don't have to replace it with a 100% new one you know.

The 1645 (with core i7's) is still being sold in the US, I would expect you to get a replacement 1645 similar to what you had.

So Its Confirmed. In india the 1645/47 is not available anymore.
The XPS 15/17 will be out by first week of November.

I had an replacement order placed for the xps 1645 but sales guy said me that I will be getting the new model due to End of Life of 1645.

Really?? Wow....you are lucky if that comes to pass. I wonder when you'll actually receive it. Might be a longer wait than the first week of November, though it's probably worth the wait.

    Hi Parth,

I am in the same boat here! I had the 1645 system (ref signature) which was returned due to issues (overheating / throttling).

Any idea what compensatory model it would be? 15 or 17?

    lucky me
i ordered a XPS 1645 with i7 -740Qm and ati mobility 5730 at the end of last month and was waiting for delivery, but then DELL site started showing that my order has been cancelled. when i contacted DELL on 11 they said that it was due to some technical difficulties, i was so angry at them, they again offered me core 2 duo 9700 with ati mobility 3670 (512 mb) which i refused (obviously).

I was waiting for refund when i came across this thread, it has been such a relief because i was so confused which other laptop to buy which gives me both performance and style.
I hope the upgrade will improve an already awesome laptop, :)
and this time i will go with RGB LED if offered which i previously missed. ;)

They haven't said anything about that.
Well theoretically they are replacing sxps 13 with xps 15 and sxps 16 with xps 17.
So i guess they will offer us xps 17.

But i will have a look at specs of both the laptop and then decide which one to get (probably i will ask for xps 15 as an 17" laptop is too big for me).

    Hi Parth,

I sincerely hope that we get the replacement which is comparable or better than the systems we gave back. Its been more than 3 weeks since I returned mine, but no word on what is going to happen when.

    Let's wait and watch.

well, have you already returned the old system ??.
If yes than you must be fuming right now.

and whats the procedure to return the system.
I mean do they call us or we have to calll them.

how did you return the system ??

Well I was thinking if i dont like the specs of the new system
As some are saying xps 15 would be having GT 425 which is a big downgrade from 5730. then i may ask them to wait till the sandy-bridge arrive and then give me the replacement and even after that if dont like the system i would ask for full refund.

Mine also has rgbled screen, Lets see how things shape up.

Yes, I have already returned the old system, and I don't have any options @ hand :-(

I called up DELL about my grievances and they offered to collect the system via their logistics people. Basically to return the system, the laptop and all the related stuff has to be returned in a safe carton and couriered back at a specified address.

You will have to call and request/convince them for the pick-up.

I know the speculations about the XPS 15 having the GT 425 (a downgrade from 5730), but the sandy-bridge will be arriving somewhere in early 2011 (needs confirmation)

I simply cannot wait for a month, let alone till next year. My work has already started to suffer.

If I don't like the new system, or it is late in coming in, I am planning to ask for full refund.

Noting we can plan right now..right! Uhh, I feel so helpless!

Well than comparitively i am in a better situation.
I haven't returned the laptop yet. So i guess i cann wait till jan till if the need arises.

Also was just wondering they placed my replaced system order and i have the old system with me and also got the order conformation email. So my case is different as compared to you ??

So in my case how will they track weather i have replaced my old system or not.
They haven't picked up the replaced parts from my place yet.
    So irresponsible of them.
I have a MB, and two heat sink at my place. Dont these things cost them.
The MB itself cost well more than 10K as it also has graphic card soldered on it.

I don't know how these guys think / execute their inventory management.

I had an LCD Motherboard, RAM and heatsinks; all just stored away for 3 months!

After that they realized it had to be collected.

And yes, You are in a better position than me. But please keep tracking what is being planned for your replacement from DELL's end.

Ultimately, it may be DELL's reputation, but our money is also at stake.

I think you have 21 days to ask for a refund. If not, you could always sell yours used and then buy another, but you'll lose a bit of money doing that. What can you really expect though? You can't go out and buy a car, then expect to get a refund for no reason when the next model year comes out.

In india, If the dell rep are to be believed.

They actually would have to release the laptop soon here in india because they have removed the 1645/7 a long time back from dell inda site so currently they dont have any premium model apart from bulky AW
