How much money do you have?

I prefer the XPS 1530, but I bet that the Vostro would give the best performance:cost ratio.

M1530 all the way, the GDDR3 8600M GT is worth it (if you game). Not to mention looks or weight...

I just got the vostro 1500, it's coming on monday - yay! I compared it with the xps and it was so much cheaper for the same specs. If you are worried about money go for the vostro any day.

My vostro has 2.00gHz core 2 duo, 2gB memory, nvidia 8600m GT and windows xp of course. It cost me £740 with microsoft office home/student. the xps with same specs would have been £930 (an alienware equivalent even with an inferior gpu would have been £1450!) the xps looks better and has a camera, but for £200 - no thanks.

1530 is definitely better for gaming as it has a better video card. However, Vostro cannot be beaten for its price.

What are the differences? In terms of weight, size - especially thinness, screen options, video card options?

Is 8600M GT GDDR3 more powerful than the regular 8600M GT DDR2 ?

Another question: Vostro has Full Magnesium-alloy construction. Does it have better construction ?

XPS is an all around better machine. But its more money. You do get what you pay for though.

If money weren't an option i would get the xps. With money being an option, however, i'd get the vostro (look at my sig ;) )

cost vs. performance: vostro any day. The Vostro can be as good as the XPS - mine has a 8600M GT. xps is lighter. my vostro is pretty heavy. very cheap though. i didn't think you could get the 8600m gt ddr3 in the xps anyway? The ddr3 rather than ddr2 is a bit better, not worth extra monies though.
