    Has anyone extended their warranty?

I live in Canada, I bought my xps 1330 last September and I got the rainbow lines of death about 6 weeks ago. I sent it in for depot service and it works fine now, but my warranty is up in just over 5 weeks.

I called Dell today to ask how much it would be to extend my warranty and they wanted $269 for one more year. I asked about 2 years and the rep said $499!

I think that's pretty ridiculous considering that if you configure a new laptop, going from the standard 1 year depot service to 3 year service is only $149.

3 Year Return to Depot Service and Technical Support [add $149 or $4/month1] ( http://configure.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=ca&CS=cadhs1&l=en&OC=N13302V_F_1E)

Does anyone have any advice on this? Is there maybe a different department I should talk to, rather than just warranty extension?

Yeah, thats why most people don't extend their warranty. its meant to get people to buy an extended warranty first right when they purchase their system and encourages people to buy longer warranties.

If they made the extension cost as much as the initial cost when you first configured the system, everyone would go with the lowest warranty and extend their warranty when they feel its necessary. Its all business. I think you should use your notebook very often and be extra careful. I dont think its worth extending the warranty. Make sure you have to latest bios and perform the Copper Mod to help out and maybe get a cooler as well just to be safe. The cost of all those would be cheaper and more reliable than an extended warranty since the prices are ridiculously high.

keep chatting with different CSR and complain about the price... one is bound to offer to u cheaper, if u really want a warranty extension

or everyone here could email bomb dell about the problems with cooling on the m1330, citing the 80+page thread here about the rainbow effect...

Really chatting with the CSR won't do much this time just because... the purpose of making the prices high to extend warranty after you customize is one of the ways their business works. If you do get lucky though, please do tell. :)

Nope, my Visa doesn't have any of those features. Thanks for the info guys, I guess I'll upgrade the BIOS to A12 and find a laptop cooler.
