Okay so i was on the phone with dell today for 2 hours and 30 mins and all they did was keep transferring me back and forth from customer care and tech support.. its really pissing me off... so they gave me my options and exchange which could take up to 30 days, refund which i got my computer for a good price and if i build it back up again it would cost way more than i got it or a dell tech which they will have to replace my motherboard and bottom part which is refurbished.. has anybody had this problem and how long did it take for the exchange.

As a new member here looking for advice on a windows XP based laptop for music production, i too was directed to Dell and the first experience has been very poor indeed. I thought I was on the phone to a local Dell NZ agent with the intention of having a custom built laptop. No it was somewhere in Malaysia where the phone connection was poor and the English of the Native worse...to add to the problem. I must admit he tried his best but has me concerned wether to buy from them. Very frustratiing.
Anyway anyone have advice about some of these issues? 1,Very few laptops come with 7200 speed HD's. I am considering Solid state memory instead. 2, None i see yet have firewire1394b which is the faster and even the 1394a versions are 4pin. my desktop which is 5years old now(a true dinosaur)has 6pin and allows me to power external firewire devices which in my case may be a soundcard. Any windows XP users out there offer advice on these or any other issues i should consider.I don't wish to upgrade for 5/6years so i want to get these requirements right.BTW I am useing Ableton Live. Thanks.

Is it possible for you to go to the dell website to configure your system??

You can generate an e-code then call them I think to order if you wish with the config you spec'd online.

7200's are very available at least for me looking in the US. There is a 160gb 7200rpm that is only ~$25 more than the base 5400rpm (I'm looking at xps 1330).

you can get a cable to remedy your firewire problem --- provides power from a usb jack

Ask for the replacement even though it may take 30 days you can still use the one you have now until the other one comes in. I had to do that with mine, I didn't want it fixed as they would have to take it all apart and replace the bottom case.

they said that if i do an exchange they have to "review" my laptop first so i won't be able to keep it i'm going to have to send it in.

You haven't given much information here. Which model? Do you mean the base doesn't sit flat on the desk? If the problem is a small wobble, search this forum. There is an easy fix which you can do yourself. I did.

    Hey there ~
Are you looking for the Search function here on the forum???

If so it's in the upper right hand corner of the page ;)
    Show: Search in all cap's...

If that is not what you are looking for for *search* let us know more details!

    Thx.
