I currently own a top-of-the-line Dell XPS 13 2015 (QHD+, 512Gb, etc..) and I'm quite disappointed with the huge delay OEM drivers are released over Intel ones for the integrated HD 5500 GFX card. Those haven't been updated since January, while Intel released version 4170, Dell is still on 4013. Since I have huge problems using high-demanding programs (drivers crash and behave improperly launching apps like Adobe Photoshop), I was wondering if any of you guys had installed Intel's drivers and what is your experience.
I'm new to Dell, I d0n't know if such delay is common with them and why is so. News related to drivers or suggestions are highly appreciated :)
    Thank you

Delays in OEMs releasing updated drivers is pretty common. OEMs like Dell don't typically go through the trouble of testing / certifying drivers and putting them on their support website unless there is a specific bugfix that would dramatically decrease the number of support calls they get.

Having said that, there really isn't a good reason to update Intel HD GPU drivers, unless you have a specific bugfix you need. Because unlike nVidia / AMD, Intel HD drivers: (1) Are for GPUs that are typically not used for gaming; (2) don't offer performance boosts in games, like nVidia & AMD drivers.

If you do need to manually update Intel drivers, you can do it by following the directions posted on Intel's support site:
    http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-033915.htm

I recently did this, and manually updateed the Intel HD GPU drivers using the "common" drivers found on Intel's website.

I did the upgrade with Intel drivers to try to correct a bug in Left 4 Dead, but the bug is still present.

A part from this bug, no drawbacks whatsoever.

Thanks, how are they doing on your machine?

Thank you, quite convinced me to switch to Intel's :)

Zip method tells me that windows determined the latest one is installed. But i'ts the old 4013 version installed...

When I try the exe file, tells me straight that it's not compatible. How did you actually get it to install ?!

I linked a page in my previous post.

Read it. It tells you what to do (essentially, you manually select which driver to install, and override all of the warnings windows throws in your way).

or just uninstall them and reinstall the original intel drivers.
i use the official intel ones aswell as they get automatically updated through windows update.
