Dell's new XPS 13 has a stunning edge-to-edge display | The Verge
Check it out..looks gorgeous...shame on me that I bought in November the Haswell edition...now I will try to sell mine ASAP to get this... -
ugly, look like inspiron with thin bazel
-
Can't wait for the 15"
-
No more webcam?
-
It does not bother me, the design looks ok, keyboard looks ok, if now Dell could just release a developer version of this with Ubuntu 14.04, this could be the best ultraportable of this year. -
-
Haha, it looks like Dell is still going to stick with 750M for their XPS 15. They could had upgraded it to 850M or 965M, but I guess it was too much work for them. They're trying to copy apple.

So much for "Customizable"
I want 1080p with an i7

I wish they would clarify whether the 1080p screen is IPS or not.
edit: IPS according to a chat rep who took a while to find out. Not a guarantee thoughLast edited: Jan 6, 2015 -
opened it looks amazing, closed not so much

Hopefully they can get those updated with current GPUs on things like that version of the XPS15 -- I have a suspicion (and no actual data to support it!) that because the delays have all been from Intel, that the refreshed designs are likely to have been ready to go a while ago... one would hope Dell would keep updating them as other conditions change, but...
For those waiting for a higher-power machine like the XPS 15, I'd also keep an eye on the Skylake release dates -- unless they get pushed back, they should follow on late this year. -
That XPS 13 is stunning to say the least ... -
Just ordered my New XPS 13 with the i7/ 256GB / touch WQHD display. It's my first Dell ever, so I hope it does a good job replacing my Samsung NP900X3C.
Over the years, I tried going with the Lenovo X1 Carbon. I tried the 1st gen non-touch, 1st gen touch, and finally the 2nd gen touch. I was ready to order the new one, but after being burned so many times with poor QC problems, I felt I would be much happier with the Dell. It actually looks better in so many ways! They really went all out on this one.
We'll see though as my estimated delivery date is beginning of Feb. I haven't ordered from them before, but I hope they're conservative on that date! -
It's been years since I've owned a Dell. But this one was too sexy.
I just ordered the i7/512 unit. Doesn't ship for three weeks though. Ugh. -
Can anyone tell me if there is an option for matte screen ? (because I think that companies sell mirrors ,not screens anymore....)
-
I ordered the i5 / 1080p / 256gb SSD model. Having fought with windows & linux dpi scaling in the recent past, it wasn't worth the battery hit and frustration for me personally to go QHD+. Estimated delivery date of the 23rd. I hope you guys used the $100 coupon code floating around!

It even lets you select next day shipping for $0madmook likes this. -
oh man this looks awesome, I may shift to this vs the asus UX303LA I was planning on getting in the next few months. The only thing I don't like is the 1080p screen isn't touchscreen like the QHD.

In Dell’s site you can’t find a 1080p touchscreen option. That’s a shame, because the 1080p is matte and probably more power efficient.
-
My ideal config is 1080p/i7/16gb of ram. Unfortunately, not supporting 16gb of ram is a deal breaker. Too bad because it's a really nice machine.

I am not that confident in the answers I received as he didn't seem to have that much information at hand. I guess we will find out for sure when they start showing up from orders or for reviews. -

Nice writeup here as well.
Dell XPS 13: matte vs glossy -
Edit: In the second video, I found it really odd that she mentioned the touchpad surface was different on the 1080p matte version. As far as I can see on the website, they use the same glass touchpad.Last edited: Jan 8, 2015 -
The difference in touchpad material is a bit odd. Otherwise, you're getting a good value going for the matte, non-touch version. Enjoy it! -
I just ordered the base model. With the $75 off coupon it came out to be less than $800 out the door. I'm totally fine with a 1080p screen but will definitely miss having a touchscreen.
I wish they offered more configuration options, like a touchscreen 1080p version for $899 or something. As it is, it seems like the base version is a much better value (have to pay $500 more just to get a touchscreen), which is why I ordered it. -
Anyone here with some inside information of when the developer version with Ubuntu 14.04 will be available ?
Regards -
I am not known with the XPS model but this one definitely looks like a winner
Question
- how is the fan noice on the XPS ultra books?
- is it possible to get a 512 SSD with the i5 non touch? I prefer the matte screen -
I'll admit there is something immensely appealing about the screen, but in practicality it'll likely provide significantly tangible real world benefits.Curious to see if there is a diff between the touchscreen/non-touchscreen model's touch pads like the previews say.
My 13" Zenbook prime is still serving me well after a couple of years but considering upgrading for better battery life. I'm very curious to see what the reviews look like when they ship given the immense popularity of this at CES.
what do you guys think are the chances of being able to upgrade the SSD drive? I know it's often slim to none on these type of devices. It's just annoying how much they jack up the price for anything above 128GB
As for the current limited config options, I'm sure that'll change later on. -
Dellienware Workstations & Ultrabooks
I bought it... Ok! I bought it!
-
looks like dell site lets for more customizeability. They almost had me
I'll wait for reviews and continue to see how much longer my zenbook will last.

Also hoping for 1080p with ~100% SRGB and touch. I won't want to get an extremely high res screen to get a good quality one along with their downsides.powerslave12r likes this. -
Hi.
Looking to purchase this laptop.
Have a couple of questions for you Dell experts.
Do you know what the average battery time I can expect on the XPS 13?
Use for, Surfing, reading newspapers, listening to music, watching Youtube & HD movies.
I will be using this laptop as a Desktop, probably remain in the house 90% of the time.
If I use the power outlet consistently, the battery remains 100%, will there be any issue?
I want to upgrade the SSD to 250GB. Will this (see below) be compatible?
SAMSUNG 850 EVO-Series MZ-75E250B/AM 2.5" 250GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD).
Thanks.

Battery is fine if it's always at 100, just don't forget to use it every once and a while.
SSD is not compatible, this uses m.2 SATA SSDs -
Just got back from the microsoft store where I got some hands on time with the low end model.
My thoughts are that the build quality felt outstanding. Really, rock solid all around. The carbon fiber feels great and reminds me a little of the yoga 2 & 3 pro.
Keyboard is a little tight but again very solid, little to no flex.
Screen looks great with the small bezel and will most likely be copied throughout the industry. Not sure why bezels ended up getting as big as they did, my 6 year old Dell M6400 has a smaller bezel then most modern laptops on the market. Wasnt really that impressed with the matte screen on this model. Didnt look as crisp as I was expecting. Just didnt wow me.. Also the screen is solid, very little flex and I would guess touchscreen with the Gorilla glass may be stiffer.
Hinge is rock solid compared to the Thinkpad Yoga or the X1. No movement at all.
Touchpad felt great, one of the best I have used. Solid up top and pushable towards the bottom.
WARNING...There is a very bad pinch point on this design in the back corners when you open up the screen. Got my finger pretty good and I imagine it may become an issue for dell at some point as it could easily pinch your leg if working on your lap or hurt a little kid. My 5 yr olds finger could get seriously hurt.. Definitely rec'd getting your hands on before making a purchase to make sure its something you can live with.
All that said they had a couple X1 Carbon at the store and I was really surprised how much better the build quality was on the Dell. Different league imo. I will be waiting to see what Microsoft says next week at the conference and then will most likely be ordering the i7 w/256 + Touchscreen when it becomes available. -
Thanks for the info tkuhe. Can you be more specific on the Microsoft conference? What is the occasion?

Microsoft announces Windows 10 event for January 21st | The Verge -
Dell's been pretty good about the screen, I would expect the same panels as the previous versions. What I'm hoping for is a great keyboard, and most important of all none of the issues from the previous xps15/m3800 (coil whine comes to mind).
I will be doing the qhd+ screen since the next iterations of windows and applications should be on their way to addressing any scaling issues.

This is appears to be a M.2 Sata.

http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-M500-240GB-6Gbps-Internal/dp/B00HBKN2GG
Does this look compatible?
I notice under Dell's configuration, one can upgrade to SSD 256GB for $100.00 more.
Maybe this is the way to go for me. Curious if this is a slow SSD their offering.

This laptop looks amazing. Looking to upgrade soon and this might be it. Curious to know if any of you purchased the extended warranty/damage protection, or if you have ever had any issues with Dell units after the 1 year warranty.
Thanks! -
For those who have ordered what is the estimated shipping date for the laptop?
-
$799 is 2/5
$899 & $999 is 1/27
$1299 is 2/3 -
What do you guys think about waiting? I can afford to wait this time around and I've heard that for this gen it might be better to wait for skylake given the delays in broadwell.
