Not really just A05 issue... Anything that is A02 above has been giving the crazy fan noise after CPU microcode has been updated.. again.

They say they fixed a few things like keyboard behavior, but I wonder if A02+ is really even worth it at this point. The fan does get quite audible in library conditions and this is driving me crazy...

Any thoughts? I didn't use my laptop this entire summer and just updated the bios and noticed that the loud fan noise is still back since like A03 bios..

    Thanks.

Check your CPU usage. I wouldn't be surprised if you're (unknowingly) running apps in the background that consume CPU cycles, rather than just having fan behavior blamed entirely on Bios changes.

I've been using my XPS 13 every work day for months, and the fan is almost never on unless I'm gaming on it.

A05 has actually been quieter than A01 for me. A01 for me was always silent off A/C but was disproportionately loud when plugged in. A05 is still silent while off A/C but much more reasonable while plugged in. Arguably the temperature threshold for the fans are a little too high since it does run a little warmer vs A01.

How can one check the current BIOS version?

Background apps are bare minimum. Granted, yes the cpu usage is high. But the same usage went on with much less heat with older gen bios...

I wonder if Dell is worried with cpu heatsink's heat killing other component, hence being more proactive with the fan. The cpu will do just fine with mid 80s..

There are a few ways. The easiest way is probably to open up the run command (Win + R) and then type in "dxdiag".
