I was thinking that now that people have had their XPS's for some time, it would be informative with some battery life information, for future adopters.

A battery report can be generated from cmd and saved to desktop with the following command:
    Code:
    powercfg /batteryreport /output %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\battery_report.html
Then post the report or just the "Battery life estimates" (the last part) and your configuration:
    QDH/FHD, I7/I5/I3, 128GB/265GB/512GB/1TB and 4GB/8GB/16GB

And maybe your "normal usage style":
    Study, browsing, video streaming, etc.

Unfortunately I haven't received my XPS yet, so cant even contribute with mine results.. Yet! ;)

    Thanks

So far I've found BatteryBar's estimates better than Windows', and the cumulative estimate is ~9 hrs. Realistically, that's working out to about 7-8 hours between charges without always draining the battery. I'm just about to recharge at about 25% with 7 hours usage, for example.

Power consumption at idle is ~4W, otherwise mostly Office-based work & browsing with FF and general fiddling. It's a close equivalent to the 12-inch Macbook Pro in this respect, and not quite as much as I'd hoped.

The main issue is that it came with 7.3% battery wear out of the box - so only 53,329mWh out of 57,432 mWh. Not good. This value hasn't shifted at all either, which is odd as on every other machine I've ever owned it varies between charges. So I suspect something isn't quite right on the battery firmware side.

"Current estimate of battery life based on all observed drains since OS install
    Since OS install 6:41:37 - 7:04:20"

Typical usage is some browsing, watching video (streamed from a media server), writing latex, reading a bunch of pdfs. Maybe play an hour of FTL, every now and then. I typically have the brightness set to 20-40%, but when I watch video I often turn it up all the way, so that might reduce the overall number. It seems to be good enough to get me through a day of work, but I expected a bit more; hope the battery won't wear out too quickly.

My battery actually says it's current capacity is 54,454 mWh, whereas design capacity is 57,532 mWh - but according to the report it regularly charges to 106%..

    Edit: i5/256/FHD

    QHD I7 512GB :
in the 7-8 hrs with heavy to moderate usage : download + netflix/1080p mkv movies + chrome + eclipse programming ...

i plan on using edge when it'll get plugins, it's supposed to have better for battery life, also intel and windows are planning small updates that would improve battery life.

Overall it's totally what i was expecting, it's good.

FHD. Idle consumption is between 4 and 6mW, usually.

I'm using Firefox, in case that's relevant.

Wow! That's impressive compared to the FHD.
I personally was hoping for battery life around 8-9 hours. But with future updates and maybe changing the SSD (no sleep problem) that doesn't seem unrealistic.

Anybody else with QHD that would share their battery life? ;)

So, apparently my Full Charge Capacity is now 57,532 mWh. Not sure what exactly this means, but I guess it is just going to stop calling a full charge 106%?

I have finally gotten my XPS 13 :) It has been running for a week now. FHD/ I7/ 8GB.

On a normal day: browsing in Edge (always~ 4 tabs open), outlook running and doing some data analysis and compiling documents. I get around 10 hours.

Lectures: notes in word, viewing slides in pdf and lowest brightness. Between 16-20 hours! Discharge rate fluctuating between 2.5-3.1 W/hour.

All in all I am pretty impressed

Agreed, with the new BIOS it sips power when using Office apps, like you but with the i5/FHD I'm running Word & Outlook at < 3W. Idles at < 2W. Well over 10 hours, very impressive.

Same here :( Started running NTB at 9:15, normal usage, wifi, word, chrome, remote desktop ... and battery at 6% at 12:50

    thats not even 4 hours

    //edit:
I've realized, that I had turn off the C-state in BIOS, to solve the coil whine, therefore the battery life was so miserable. When I turned it ON again, the battery life is between 7-9hours office using including wifi on.

    Hello guys,
I am very impressed from your results, since mine are not even good. Few days ago my Dell Xps 13 (skylake, non-touch, full-hd, intel core I7, 250 GB SDD) arrived, but I am quite disappointed because of the battery life. Normal usage (wifi, Word, some music now and then, 40% brightness, internet, chat) gives me 4.20 hours. Very far away from the 11 hours reviewers claim. Do you believe the battery could be defective? Or the notebook has to go through few cycles before getting better? Did you have the same problem at the beginning?

    These are the results:

    FULL CHARGE CAPACITY 54 mWh
    CYCLE COUNT -

    Since OS install
    At full charge 4:29:51
    At design Capacity 4:47:21

Thanks in advance for you time.

Joe, make sure you upgrade to the latest BIOS, there may be some improvement with that.

Hello Atook, thank you for the answer. Unfortunately, I have already updated the BIOS, but as a result I had an improvement of 20 minutes. That's frustrating. :(

    XPS 15 QHD4K/i76700HQ/16GB

    I usually have Chrome/Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop running.

    At Full Charge: 3:46:03

But I get around 5 hrs if I'm just browsing the internet or doing light stuff.

    Thanks for your answer.
I see, but you have an XPS 15 with a QHD monitor, and you get the same results of my xps 13 FHD. :(
