Hi there,
I bought the laptop off ebay a couple of weeks back and for the first week it was fine. I've since been having this pretty horrible crashing issue that strikes about one per day depending on usage. The screen turns into this blue, green and purple 'glitch' style effect where it is separated into chunks while still being able to slightly see the original display.
Here is a photo of the issue (blurred because of sensitive information):

It seems to strike seemingly randomly. I can be browsing the internet and it crashes or I can be compiling and it goes off.
I have updated the drivers of the Intel processor and graphics chip.
Has anyone had a similar issue?
Thanks for reading!
The specifications of my laptop are below:
i7-3537u
8GB Ram
1920x1800 Screen Non-Touch Version
Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000.

That is definitely a hardware issue. Somewhere, you have a piece of hardware that is defective.
If the computer still runs and responds when that happens, then it is most likely a defective LCD panel or a defective display cable. Try opening some windows, hitting Ctrl-Alt-Del, WindowsKey-1, etc to see if the computer is still responsive.
If the computer simply locks up or freezes, then it is most likely a defective CPU, motherboard, or RAM.
>> Test for defective RAM by downloading and installing MemTest86+ onto a bootable USB flash drive.
>> Test for improper CPU cooling by downloading and installing Prime95, and see if putting the CPU under heavy load can trigger one of these crashes.
If none of those work, then you will most likely need to replace the CPU and motherboard. I believe the CPU is soldered onto the motherboard, so they both have to be replaced as one unit, if you choose to go down that path. If the laptop is still under warranty, then definitely call Dell and get it repaired through them. If the laptop is out-of-warranty, then you're stuck with a defective laptop (that you may or may not be able to "return" to the eBay seller).

Thanks so much for your help buddy. I've contacted the seller and the graciously allowed me to return it. Real shame because it was a nice laptop at a good price.
Have a great day pal,
Charlie
