Why are we clearly not talking about the xps13 or its possible predecessor... There are already plenty of threads about the xps15/Insp14z

I didn't mean to be a moderator or anything... I just think that your conversation will be much better off in the appropriate thread. There are up do date posts about possible upcoming configurations and I'm sure the speculation thread would love new posters :D

edit: I just looked for myself and in the XPS15 thread there is a leak of the new xps14 and xps15... xps14 looks like it could be a xps13 replacement

Haven't been following this thread for quite some time. What is the skuttlebut on a refresh of the XPS 13? I'm sure there will be an IB refresh but any word on an improved display?

900p and IB planned for October/November apparently. Presumably to tie in with Windows 8.

Hopefully with 8GB as standard with scope to upgrade to 16GB too - then it'll be one kick a$$ Ultrabook.

The XPS 14 & 15 are replacements for their current namesakes.

Reason I ask about router firmware is often- especially with Intel- the card will have some new, whiz-bang feature that the router vendor has to develop firmware to be specifically compatible with. Your older Intel or non-Intel card may work just fine with the current (old) router firmware, but the new card sometimes will not. This is why I lament the inexperienced phone tech that does not include "update router firmware" in his/her WiFi troubleshooting routine.

OT: This may be of interest to the Linux fans who own XPS 13s.

Only if you're willing to tote an extra 1.5lbs...it's not an ultraportable. Looks cool, but might as well get a Sony S with bluray.

I tried your exact settings which were very close to what I already had and I still cannot get 3 finger swipe for forward/back to work or 4 finger gestures. I have .33 with touchfreeze installed and all of the settings as you indicate.
Thanks for the reply. I wish I could get it to work.
If anyone else has any feedback for me I would appreciate it.

Hi guys, can you help me with re-installing windows 7 64bit on the xps 13?

Because during windows 7 installation; the installer cannot detect the local storage to install into and I have tried to give it the drivers (extracted) from the official DELL website. But it still wouldn't accept them.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi i just received my xps 17 in the mail woohoo! I just have a couple of questions.

Is it just my unit or can you wobble the disk drive around even when its closed?
Also, is there any way I can check that all the drivers are up to date other than downloading them drom the dell website and installing all of them?

I spoke way too soon. I just restarted my computer and now the trackpad is acting really really weird. Its super mushy and 2 finger scrolling does not work. I got rid of the dreaded tap to click though. I will mess with the drivers and see if I can get to the bottom of it.

Sounds like maybe a bad SSD - is it seen in the BIOS? There are no drivers to install during or prior to the Windows 7 install.

If the install can't find disk 0 or the C drive then you have bigger problems. Did you play with any BIOS settings prior to this adventure?

Man I bought my wife an 13" Ultrabook and whenever I use it then go back to my 2011 13" MBP I wish I could swap! We really haven't had too many issues with the Ultrabook but I'm curious; what are we supposed to do if we decide to format the HDD completely since they Dell didn't ship any recovery media?

If it shows up in the bios, you should do a clean from diskpart:

run diskpart command from a prompt (hit shift f10 at the language screen to get the cmd window).

Then each of these commands, followed by the enter key after each one.

list disk (to show the ID number of the hard disk to partition, normally Disk 0)

select disk 0 (change 0 to another number if applicable)

    clean (this deletes all partitions)

    create partition primary

    select partition 1

    active

    format fs=ntfs quick

    exit

the reboot and start install again

After much searching and deliberation: I went back to the Dell XPS 13 after all, but went to the Outlet Store and picked up the Dell Outlet New i7/256 SSD for $1,129 including the usual in-home service.

Im looking fwd to the delivery this week and official membership in the XPS 13 Owners Thread.

There are some really good deals on the current xps13 in the outlet. Somewhere around the vicinity of 25% off if you get the upper tier ones. I am really debating returning mine (within the 21 days) and getting one with 256ssd.

Does anyone know how dell does the 21 day return? I have done this in the past and it has been super smooth... but the fact that I have returned 2 in the past makes me think I may get blacklisted... I always get another dell, but just change my mind sometimes.

I just returned my XPS13 last week in anticipation of the new releases this week. They offered me $100 off to keep it, but it was an otherwise painless process. At first they were going to try to charge me a restocking fee, but when I reminded them it was an XPS they waived it without any other argument.

I shipped it last Monday and my refund showed up over the weekend.

That was my first return, don't know if having previous returns would affect it. I imagine they're getting quite a few over the past few weeks with these new models leaking online.

Was yours new or from the outlet? If they offered me 100.... I'd have to take it. Last time I made a return they only offered me 20 to keep it. It was an xps too though.

    It was from the outlet.

From my point of view, I'd rather have the option to get one of the newer 14's or 15's knowing I could still probably get a deal on another outlet 13 that would match the $100 off they offered me if I didn't like what they did with the new models. From looking at the outlet currently, that looks like it's the case.

After coupons and everything, I think my xps13 was around 620 before taxes. At 520, (if they gave me 100 off on top of what I payed) then that would be an absolute bargain for what it is. Sure the new 14/15 are awesome, but the portability of the 13 is really hard to pass up. It is only slightly bigger than my previous ultraportable (dm1z) and leaps and bounds more powerful.

Wow, what coupons got the XPS down to $520? I'm looking at the xPS 13 in the outlet store and for the i5 and 256SSD it was $1120 with tax. I might get another hundred by being an AAA member.

What Improvements can one expect for an Ivy Bridge chip. I'm getting tired of waiting. I do a lot of HD and RAW photography editing, and I'm often on long overseas flights in coach with no extra battery power.

Nothing will get you to 520. I managed to get a VERY RARE coupon of 20% off on one that retailed for 820 on the outlet. (I am going off the top of my head on these numbers). Do not expect to ever get to 520... I was at 620 and did plenty of research on the lowest price possible before I pulled the trigger.

As for ivy vs sandy... ivy is about 20% better. If you do HD/Raw editing, the ivy will be much better bc it has intel HD4000 graphics vs HD3000. The HD4000 is supposed to be around 50% better. As for battery power... I get around 6 hours. If you are on a flight, just be charged before it takes off and you should be ok.

Also, I'm a student so I know Dell is doing the promotion for the free xbox? Can I get that thrown in as well????
