Looking for a laptop for my son's college.

I see that there's a version 2 that folds back to be like a tablet. Other than that, is there really any substantive advantage of version 2 over 1? 1 is lower cost which is a plus.

Does version 1 also allow digitizer pen?
Does version 2 allow user to upgrade SSD to larger capacity as version 1 does?

    Thanks!

I'm not sure about active pen support but insofar as I'm aware, the regular XPS 13 has a full-blown mobile i5/i7 whereas the 2-in-1 has a core i7 Y processor which is similar to the old Core M. This should help battery life but the performance trade-off is pretty big. As far as SSD sizes go, they support the same stuff.
