So I have a XPS 1330 and I love it...when it works. I have never had a problem with Dell computers but with this one, one of my USB ports is broken, my hard drive works sometimes, the motherboard is completely screwed and it's already blue screened once. Do you think if I call Dell and ask for a new computer (it's still under warranty, not even 5 months old) that they would send me one?

Manufacturers tend to try repairing units before simply replacing them altogether. If the unit repeatedly has problems and proves to be a lemon (ie, the cost of repairing it again is more than the cost of just giving you a new unit), most manufacturers will replace the unit without any problems.

I recommend you simply send the unit in to Dell.

    definitely possible.

my xps 1330 has a 3yr warranty and accidental damage (bought it in feb of this year). after a tech replaced the motherboard because it was overheating the laptop started to shut off randomly. sometimes it would just turn off after 5 mins, sometimes after an hour.

they sent another tech to basically swap out everything. motherboard, processor, hard drive etc because they refused to give me a new one saying it was past the 21 days. i specifically asked that when they replace my hard drive they send me one with a factory image so that i wouldn't have to manually install vista. while the hard drive was setting up the image, the laptop shut off and didn't complete the process (i didn't realize that happened because I was away from the computer). thinking it was just a bad hard drive they sent me another one, but this time i saw that the computer was still shutting off.

i just called up dell again and told them i wanted a new computer. the rep was like they typically don't do it but he will try. took him about 5 mins and he got it approved.

the finally just sent my replacement and it's working perfectly. i think it's even better than the first one that i got.

it definitely cost them more to replace all the crap they did and send me a new computer as opposed to just sending me a new one in the first place.
i say ask them for a new one. and if they say no just jump through whatever hoops they want. if they send replacement parts and it fixes the problem then great, if it doesn't then demand a replacement again. but it can happen.
