Just noticed a few days ago dell released a new bios update to the old 1340 system (which is kind of odd since they did not updated it for a long time)

    Drivers and Downloads

    "Fixes and Enhancements
    Fix Lojack malfunction issue."

anyone installed it ? tested it for benchmarks ?

I'm not sure if this is the same update I received, but after receiving and trying to update my bios (Saturday, April 23, 2011), the computer froze. I left it alone for a few hours with no response. After calling dell customer support, they told me that I should just reboot it and that it's normal to do so. The power button was unresponsive, so I had to unplug it and remove the battery to reboot. However, when I turned it on, the lights flashed but the screen never turned on.

Any ideas as to how I could recover my laptop?

I found a fantastic solution to my problem using the instructions here and here

The second link no longer has the download files, but has good instructions on the procedure.

As far as downloading the correct files, they are found on the dell support site (mine were here) and from the first link, at the bottom of that post.
