    Hi,

I have been trying to follow the recommendations in the thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...ist-of-hardware-and-software-problems.784691/

I have the XPS 15 in the configuration with Core i7, UHD Display and only the 512 GB M.2 SSD (large battery, no SATA drive).

I have updated my BIOS to the latest version 01.00.07 and now I am trying to configure BIOS to disable RAID as it is said to reduce performance.

However, if I select "AHCI" in BIOS instead of "RAID", the system will no longer boot and will give a BSOD during boot with the error code "INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE". When I change the setting back to "RAID", everything works fine again.

Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong?

    Thanks in advance,
    Matt

You need to boot into safe mode after changing from RAID to AHCI. Then reboot back into normal mode and it will be fine.

I did a clean install of Windows 10 after switching to ACHI mode. After the installation completed I installed the Samsung NVMe drivers. Everything seems to work fine, however, only when I reboot, I get the error that no harddrive (SSD) is found. Any ideas on what I did wrong? I read multiple things about this occurence but unfortunately I can't find the posts anymore. Instructions on how to proceed would be highly appreciated!

As far as I'm aware there is no fix for that. When you install the Samsung drivers you always get the no drive detected on reboot.

I had the same problem and just ditched the Samsung drivers in the end.

Thank you for your reply! So, without Samsung drivers, it should be OK? Because I have posted this question on multiple locations and pretty much all offered solutions differ from each other in some aspect. I didn't read that not using the Samsung Driver could be a solution!

Yeah the Samsung driver is what causes the rebooting problems, I had the same thing.

Likely because the samsung drivers are actually for the 950Pro and the XPS ships with the PM951 so there are likely commands in the driver that the PM951 doesn't understand/agree with.

Just use the default microsoft nvme driver, I actually switched back to RAID and factory config it was more becoming more of a headache to try and get AHCI working than the sleep throttling problem ever was to begin with lol.

    Hi,
I've a 9550 512mb samsung pm951 NVMe M.2 and I'm pondering doing a clean install try to have it working on AHCI.
    1. Did you have any luck in fix the various problems?
    2. Does it really worth to switch to AHCI?
I've read many post of people with alternate fortune but all seems like amature try&error procedures which I'd like to avoid. Then I found this step by step for the 950,
    3. do you think it could work also for us?

Sorry, but how exactly does one do this in Win10 with UEFI? Afaik F8 doesn't work anymore and since it doesn't even find the boot device, how can it boot into safe mode at all? Any help is much appreciated.

I booted into Windows went to Start>Run type msconfig.exe in the run box, then go to the boot tab and tick the safe boot box. Restart and it will boot into safe mode then once in safe mode do the same again but untick safe boot and it will boot normally.
