    Hi All,

Got my new laptop last week (UK based customer) and I had a problem (won't go into details) so I formated C and reinstalled Win 7 that I brought with laptop. I decided I wanted some of the software that was available when laptop shipped so decided to return to factory image. Hit F8 - repair your computer - system recovery options but 'Dell Factory Image Restore' was not on the list (all I got was: Startup Repair, System Restore, System Image Recovery, Windows Memory Diagnostic and Command Prompt) so I decided to phone tech support.

The guy didn't really understand what I wanted to do and said use system restore even though I had just told him I had wiped the drive. In the end he said it was a software issue and I would have to pay for this support. Obviously I got quite annoyed and asked to speak to his manager. I am awaiting a call.

Does anyone know a command prompt to factory restore? The 'restore' and 'OEM' drives are there and were never touched so I know the image is there somewhere.

Anyone else checked to see if they have factory restore?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    Regards,
    Karl

    Hi Mate

I assume you got this resolved??? I have exactly the same issue.

i have the OEM and recovery drive still intact but no Dell factory restore option in the repair screens. I need to factory default and don't have the recovery cd's.

    Cheers
    Joe

Did you format only C:, or did you format the entire drive? I bet you formatted the drive, thus wiping out the Recovery partition.

If you created the Dell Recovery DVD-Rs, or Dell Recovery USB flash drive, which you should have done when you first booted the laptop, then you can restore to factory state from either of those.

I reinstalled windows 7 onto the c drive. The oem and recovery partitions still exist and are untouched. I just don't have the recovery dvd's.

I'm hoping there is a restore facility via the command line

IIRC, I think you need Dell DataSafe to run the Recovery. Since you clean installed Windows, you wiped out Dell DataSafe. Install Dell DataSafe and see if that will access the Recovery partition and process.

And then, make the Recovery DVDs and/or USB flash drive. You didn't prepare, and then wiped out your means of Recovery. Be better prepared next time.

owlservice said he formatted C:, but probably formatted the disk.
