Someone resolved this by gently flexing/twisting the base here.

Did you guys set the bios to AHCI from RAID on your machines? I have the 512 version and have no intentions of changing the drive out or adding another one. I was thumbing through the bios last night and noticed that it was set as RAID. I don't have any performance issues that I am aware of, so I am all for leaving well enough alone, but if most are swapping it over, then I guess I should as well?

I saw that when I was combing through this thread haha. That's my issue currently. I see that it may increase performance on the drive speeds, but I feel like the old motto of "if it isn't broken, don't fix it" is alive and well for me. Everything seems to be working just fine, granted I don't run any kind of benchmarks. I use my machine for media consumption and some light MMO gaming.

I see no speed difference between RAID and AHCI, to only problem on RAID is the SSD sleep bug, that after the computer wakes after a sleep the sequential speeds are cut by half, but I don't feel de slower speed when using it

    After sleep is 850-880

So what's the feedback on the new docks? I was planning on getting the TB15 but it looks like they sold out. I ended up getting a usb-c to mini displayport adapter so I can use my 144hz monitor.

They weren't "sold out" -Dell removed them from the website after 3-4 days - read the long thread in Dell laptop forum - they don't work right - may be rereleased at end of February - Dell has been scrambling releasing new drivers, BIOS, patches 3-4 days apart for past 2 weeks. Some people still having problems - I would stay away until you see more positive experiences on the forums

The Dell Adapter, USB Type C to HDMI/VGA/Ethernet/USB (470-ABQN) has issues with USB 3.0 port on it. My Logitech unifying receiver for my mouse stops every couple of seconds and than picks up again. Plugged into the computers normal USB ports this isn't an issue. Still have to test, HDMI, VGA, and Ethernet though.

Not sure why they included HDMI since the 9550 already has one. Another USB or something else may have been more useful, but I assume this was to accommodate the 9350 series that doesn't have HDMI.

The only issue that I found was that it didn't sit flat on the table. I know someone posted twisting instructions on how to fix that, but I can't be bothered with that especially when I paid so much money for it.

I realize people generally only speak up when things aren't working but have you seen anyone saying all features are actually working on the WD15 or TB15?

Are you getting 144Hz or 60Hz over the adapter?

Do either of you have 4k or UHD monitors? I'm trying to find someone who can verify running at 60Hz over HDMI is NOT one of the issues.

I bought the straight USB-C to USB-A 3.1 adaptor and it works perfectly fine. So I don't understand. Why this hub is having such a hard time.

I have the DA100 for my 9340 that I will try on the USB port to see if it works.

guys, i just bought a refurb 9550. but it shows the video card as nVidia GT 960M 4GB (N28R1). Is this right? older DDR? I thought it was supposed to be 2GB DDR5.

I seem to be getting 144hz when I look at the Intel HD graphics control panel. I'm getting about 90-144 FPS running at low/medium 1080p on Battlefield 4.

The USB-C adaptor seems to work minus it's USB-A 3.0 port which is intermittent and keeps on reconnecting. The VGA, HDMI, and Ethernet work though after firmware update and drivers from website.

Makes me wonder if I even want to keep it. The HDMI port isn't needed for me and the rest is just gravy. The lack of the extra USB is annoying.

I updated to the lad test bios, the firmware update for the thunderbolt port off the Dell support website, all the chipset updates, and the thunderbolt driver. Was seamless and worked without issue.

Are there any alternatives to this hub? Looking for USB 3.1 type A, with VGA, Ethernet, and maybe another USB type C port for chaining?

the DA100, maybe. But that's based on DisplayLink tech AFAIK, so it will have slightly less performance on the external screen. And no USB-C, of course.

Found a few options for different hubs for the 9550.

    http://www.startech.com/m/Cards-Ada...usb-3-mini-laptop-docking-station~USB3SMDOCKV

    Or

    http://www.ce-link.com/product/content/201506/502.html

Both of which are more expensive and looks like one isn't even out yet.

Also do you think the Dell HDMI to VGA will work? It's not listed as a computer it supports but don't see why it would work. This way it leaves the USB C port open and can still downgrade for presentations.

    http://accessories.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&sku=332-2273

And than there is the USB c to VGA but than you lose Ethernet and chaining and an extra USB.

Ive received my replacement machine and its a keeper. Much better thermal control, during a 10 minute prime95 stress test the cpu never fell below 2.9ghz, and for most of the test was in 3.1. Temps were in the upper 70s, hit 80 a few times but only for a second or so. Fan was not even on max, and thats with stock voltage / paste etc., basically straight out if the box but updated with the latest firware and drivers. The defective one that i returned was getting getting crazy hot during the same test, up to 93c and throttling like crazy. The speed and heat was up and down like a yo-yo, and the fan seemed louder and had a high pitch noise that the replacement doesnt have.

Not sure if it was a true hardware defect that caused the high temps, but it seems from feedback on this forum that the thermal performance on these machines varies.

Anyway, i am waiting for my thermal pad, torx screw driver and 950 pro to arrive, Im just wondering if i need any additional screws in order to mount the replacement m.2 ssd?

Also, to replace the mechanical drive with my old 840 series ssd, do any need any additional parts? I read that some people had difficulties swapping out the hdd, but I found this hard to believe as sata drives are built to specification.

I would recommend the 4k screen. If you set the scaling to 200% and incrqse the font sizes, scaling isnt much an issue any more. 4k has so many advantages over fhd on a laptop screen.

See my post above for info about the thermal controls, there has been many other posts on this thread about this. The laptop never gets too hot to touch, its the internal temps that you need to be careful of. Also, this laptop doesnt have the greatest battery life, the fhd 84kw model will give the best results, but if battery life is very important for you, maybe consider a true ultrabook. This machine is more of a 'high performance ultrabook', and the emphasis is on performance.

thanks for the advice. but i think i dont priority 4k screen. my primary needs is the quadcore proc and some mid VGA inside the small, thin and light package that can handle many task on the go, but yeah its powerful hardware inside smaller case will result some high tempt on it. i already check on few site who already have review on it, but is nice when we hear the testimonial from owner of this machine.

Does anyone know how to enter old fashioned Phonenix BIOS? I entered it somehow initially, but can not find how to do it.. I mean what keys to press.
Pressing F2 opens Windows like BIOS, which looks like this: [IMG]
And I am looking to BIOS like this:

    Hi guys - hello everybody.

My apologize if this question was already posted. I've searched all forum and via google and readed everything from page 40. SO 2 Questions.

I buy XPS 9550 FHD/i7/8gb/256SSD. I buy from person, so.. and that person buy it in USA. Everything it's good except:
1.) i found preinstalled win10 (deleted everyhing/turned everything off (no needed)) but there is 40GB?!? of windows file thats Windows "NEED FOR NORMAL WORK". So maybe i should take Gonzo ISO's and make fresh install?

2.) a have a BSOD error 0x00000663 - several times a day. I have latest bios x.19 and last drivers. Do You guys have this one? What can cause this error? Maybe fresh install of windows can help or not?

Thanks in advance for everyone and have a nice day!

If you deleted recovery image, you have to install Windows, not recover.

I used Windows 10 for a couple of weeks having BSODs from time to time. Now installed Windows 8 instead. It seems to be much more stable.

Is a thermal pad really needed for the SSD m.2? My original had one but my refurb does not.

On aside note. HUGE difference in sound quality with the Dell app va not having it. Well worth downloading that and installing it even on clean installs.

Yes, Ring dell, they need to come fit it, why should you bother buying one when they didn't do a full check of the laptop. time to scream and get a new one ;)
The SSD can get very hot then throttle without ventilation. The pad gets round it by removing the heat into the chassis.

I installed the latest Realtek audio driver hoping to fix my audio woes. No change. It's not the issue reported on the Dell site. My headphone jack works when I plug my headphones in for the first time and the system hasn't been running for very long, but if it's been up for a while or I've had my headphones in and out it doesn't recognize them again. I am running X-FI MB3, and though that program does have some issues, I don't see it causing this kind of glitch. But if I have time I might try uninstalling it anyway.

Audio is crappy. The Waves Maxx app crashes when you insert the Phone while it is open, sound is dead then. And repeatedly the HD Audio background task will eat 25% CPU constantly until you kill that task or reboot. That error is known also from other Dells for years. Makes me wonder if they will ever fix it...

    Hello everyone,

I am about to pull the trigger on the: I7, 4k, 16gb RAM and 512 SSD. I live in Greece and I am planning on ordering it from the UK MS store which has only to versions, the aforementioned and the: I5, FHD, 8gb RAM, 1 TB HDD.

I was thinking of getting the I5 model and replacing the HDD to an SSD and adding 16gb of RAM but I would forgo the 4k touchscreen and the I7. The I7 isn't something that I care much, the I5 will cover my needs plenty but I'd like the touchscreen and the 4k.

I have been reading through the thread and I see that it has a lot of problems which is holding me back from paying £1,649,000 ($2,389,000) .....

What do you think? I don't want to spend a fortune (for me) and then have to face all this issues mentioned here.

If you deleted recovery image, you have to install Windows, not recover.

    - so i don't wanna recover only make fresh install and maybe somebody here can answer me after fresh install (maybe Gonzo ISO will use) there will be the same 40 GB space for windows? Or it would be normal? Because having now only 256GB space and 40GB without any programs i've installed i have. And as said before few posts - several times per day (or sometimes days without) i'm having BSOD (system ran into serious error and RR). I have old asus for 200dollars and no errors and here ...
