This would be my comment as well. I opened my box, installed the latest drivers/updates/bios and never looked back. I don't overclock, I don't care if my SSD boots up in 9 seconds or 11, it's more than fast enough either way for my needs. It plays all my games perfectly fine, it looks and feels amazing, and it just works. I understand not everyone can say the same thing, and that's unfortunate, but I too would have no issues recommending this laptop to anyone I know. It's a pure winner in my book, and while some folks will have various things to say about it, please remember that most people who have a working product don't take the time to post on a forum about it. They just go enjoy it.

Do I have to install some sort of dell software / drivers?
Gesendet von meinem A0001 mit Tapatalk -
download an app called monitoroff
In Use @ x4 (Samsung NVMe SSD Controller) i'm on .19 bios
go for it and enjoy some dickwad ripping your laptop to bits to install a 2nd hand panel that has a 90% chance in being worst.
Just saying
-
I faced this problem for a couple of days. Unfortunately there is no complete solution. The best one is to use monitores program, which can be found on github, and enable blank screen saver to run using this app. It does not actually turn off monitor, but it looks like it turned off
This combination does not turn off monitor, it just display monitors selection. -
Anyone having any issues with ethernet usb adapters. Seems to work for a minute or so then doesn't. If I reset it will do the same thing...works at first then stops. I even installed an ethernet update from the Dell website.
Also, I'm getting an error when installing AVG. -
Anyone getting a hard drive error on pre boot diagnostics. You click f12 contiuously when starting up to access diagnostics. It is on my replacement system too, but the hard drive seems to work fine.

Try updating your BIOS to the latest version. This bug was fixed on the .19 version -
I've tried 4 different type-c usb/ethernet adapters from aukey/anker/bestek/ they look generic and use the same chipset and all 3 worked on and off for a week but poor driver support made me return all 4 devices. Either generic chipsets are not that well made, and or driver issues with type-c.
See my fourth try, was with a USB 3.0 to ethernet adapter without USB. It worked well for about a week. Then like the other adapters, would intermittently start failing.
Usb devices (keyboard/mouse) would sporadically be connected/disconnected. Same with ethernet connection. It was super annoying and i gave up.
I thought about ordering a Dell Dock WD15 or the Dell Adapter but reviews and forum comments specify similar issues. I think drivers need to be much more refined.
Im still waiting for me new XPS 15 9550 replacement as third party technician absolutely ruined my unit when replacing the MOBO -
Thanks! I didn't have the latest version.
-
I just installed the 950 pro, installed the samsung nvme driver, and according to SSD Magician the link speed is x1, maximum x4. I did the performance test and Im getting around half the expected read speeds. This is on the .19 bios.
I havent had the time to look into this further, but I suspect its a driver issue. -
If everything else fails you can always downgrade to older version of BIOS and give it a shot.
I installed fresh windows, un-installed samsung drivers, reinstalled them, installed intel rst... basically did every possible combination of drivers - no luck.
I switched to older BIOS and everything started to work blazing fast once again (Samsung Drivers, AHCI, no Intel RST)
Newest BIOS clearly broke the performance for me, yet other people use it without issue. I guess it's another of DELL's "things"
-
Did you try BIOS defaults?
-
Hello folks, it´s me once again.. Installed a fresh windows 10 for the THIRD time. Now I installed in RAID mode and also installed all drivers here. Then I switched to ACHI and then installed Samsung Nvme driver. Here we go again.. BLACK screens not BSOD but in my world it is the and in windows 10 world it is the same too because I get the same error in the logger: Critical , Kernel Power, ID 41, Category 63. This computer has now failed in 2 weeks and still waiting to get a nice stable laptop. By the way this is a laptop in the premium segment right?
This comment should have been posted in the other thread. I´m sorry for the inconvenience.
Dell XPS 15 (9550) list of hardware and software problems Admin: Can you move it over there?Last edited: Feb 19, 2016 -
I installed the drive in AHCI mode, so defaults wont work now because Raid is the default. I will play around with it when i have time. Im still waiting for my thermal pad to arrive so im not so concerned about running x1 link, for the time being, anyway.
-
so the answer is no.
Load default then change to AHCI as it can fix BIOS bugs leftover from an update. I would go to v19 BIOS 1st then defaults. -
where to change audio driver to v7628?
nvm. the realtek audio is already 6.0.1.7628Last edited: Feb 19, 2016 -
Station drivers posted new Thunderbolt driver from Intel

This is probably a stupid question, but the CPU is soldered on and can't be swapped in the XPS 15, right?
-
I have had my XPS 15 9550 UHD 1TB unit for a couple of days and it is running slower than my 4 year old X1 Carbon.
I click on File Explorer and it takes a few seconds to open.
Youtube video is not watchable in Firefox at full screen, but works in Edge well for some reason.
I have updated the BIOS to the latest version and updated all the drivers.
I have almost no software installed as I have tried resetting the unit twice now.
Worst experience I have had with a new laptop so far.
I have the Passmark score coming in at 1014.....which I think is dismally low, but I haven't used a lot of performance testing software as I have not been disappointed with my other laptops or desktop builds. -
Are your drive a traditional HD or a SSD? What drive is installed in X1 Carbon? SSD? If so, it explains why. Your comparison must base on the same type of disk drive.
-
No, they are both SSD. The performance of the SSD drive is obviously much better in this new XPS 15, but the 512GB SSD I have in my X1 isn't all that slow compared to this.
-
I did try this and just tried again to be sure, but link speed is still locked at x1, read speed is around 850mbs.
I have tried everything except downgrading the firmware. All the latest drivers are installed, fresh install of Windows 10.
The only thing i noticed in the firmware is that I did not enable legacy mode before installing windows, so it is ACHI with secure boot disabled but no legacy rom. I cant imagine this would cause an issue with pcie link speed though.
Im all out of ideas. Theres no options i can find to change the link speed. Its quite frustrating having paid a premium price for the 950 pro, but the performance is limited to that of a 1st gen pcie ssd..
edit: It just occurred to me, maybe its thermal throttling. I don't currently have a thermal pad on the 950 pro, I'm waiting for it to arrive in the post next week. I'll check the read / write speeds again when I have the thermal pad installed.Last edited: Feb 20, 2016 -
Anyone have a solution for an annoying problem? From time to time, when opening some windows, particularly my browser, the whole or part of the window is white or black but if I move the cursor over it, it is like it is drawing the window which becomes normal as the cursor passes over it. I have tried reinstalling the video drivers but it does not change. I have not seen anyone post a similar issue. Any ideas?
-
I got the same issue. Nothing is improved updating Intel video drivers. Any ideas?
-
Depends on the temp but testing in an idle state should show it as 4x. When I had this in my games rig it had no heatsink/pad and ran full speed. Try reseating the card?
-
I'm having an issue where the SD card reader stops working. After a cold boot, I'm able to copy gigabytes of files from a 16GB SD card in the internal card reader, even with many other programs running. But when I put the computer to sleep mode and then wake it up, I'm only able to copy a file or two at a time before I get a "There is not enough memory to complete this operation" error, followed by an automatic dismount and remount of the SD card. The only way to get it working again is a restart. The SD card works fine, as I don't have this issue when using an external SD card reader. There is plenty of memory free (6GB of 16GB). I've reinstalled the card reader driver from Dell.
Anybody else having this issue? Any ideas on what to try? Seems like a BIOS or driver issue to me. -
Thanks for the info. One more on the long list of still unsolved bugs and performance limitations.
-
It seems (based on the last 10 pages or so only) that there still isn't a TB3 dock that can power the XPS 15 and run things off the ports at the same time with weird/broken bugs. Is that right?

At least one person on this forum (SonyHome) and one on the Dell Community Laptop Forum (Seattlehighrise) have had success.and have their TB15's working according to specs. -
Is anyone else having abysmal battery times? When I am off AC and just browsingthe web, I get only a bit more than an hour of battery life even though I've installed all the latest BIOS updates. I've included below HWInfo's battery section, and Battery life estimates from Battery Report.
My fan also gets very loud when simply watching streams and both CPU and Memory usage is at 50%. Is this common?

Yeah, I have the same issue. Currently have the latest Intel drivers, but it still seems to be a lingering bug.
-
Another possible Intel graphics driver bug - when playing YouTube videos in Firefox at full screen, the video usually stutters badly. The audio does not stutter and the overall synch between audio and video is not affected, but the image is constantly juddering throughout. I used the nVidia control panel to switch the global video card setting from 'Auto-Select' to the nVidia processor (under the 'Manage 3D Settings' menu) and rebooted the machine. Now it looks like the video stuttering issue is gone. Anyone else experience this? I'm not too worried about the battery usage with the nVidia processor always on as this laptop will spend most of its time plugged in anyway.
-
Anyone know what this 'Dell Common Settings' icon is that just recently showed up in my System Tray? From what I gather, it is related to the Dell Foundation Services driver (which I recall recently installing amongst a host of other driver updates). Dell's description of the driver is rather vague (at least to me). Can anyone tell me what this is and if I really need it?
-
I have a problem with youtube playback, occasionally (very often) both video and sound are distorted and shutter terribly. Very often I cannot watch youtube because of this. Have no idea what is the problem, simply too many problems with this laptop, but I am used to problems with brand new Dell laptops during first 6 months, they will fix it eventually after 173 driver and bios updates
I am not sure if Managing 3d settings affects youtube, since youtube is not 3d
-
Just recently I have had the same experience with youtube videos posted to facebook only.
-
For those who have been having headphone jack issues like I have, the latest Realtek 7743 drivers do not fix the issue. Is there somewhere where I can contact Dell about this? I'm thinking it's something only Dell, not Realtek, can fix.
-
YouTube in Firefox stuttering for me as well. I stopped using Firefox due this issue.
Also, I still can't seem to find additional detail on why it takes 3-4 seconds for File Explorer to open, but it passes all performance tests when going to Dell site.
I get horrible results through downloaded performance tests. Does Dell not have a standard benchmark for this unit?
For $2500+tax, I could have gotten something that worked and paid for a trip to vegas twice..... -
Thanks for the update. You could add your comment to this thread in Dell support forum. Hopefully they'll pay attention if more people report it.

I reported it on the Dell website too, I get same stupid problem.
Sound doesn't work a on $$$ piece of hardware.
For me sound on the speakers works, but then after plugging in the earphone, I get the pop up notice, and click earphone, but it doesn't work, no sound nada. I have to go to speaker icon , playback, disable the Speaker/Headphone, then enable the Speaker/Headphone. This would cause whatever i was listening to, to error out and I would have to restart it and then the earphone works.
To get back the speakers, I would have to put the XPS 15 9550 in sleep mode and then turn it back on.
What a pain, definitely a software bug.
Please fix this $$$ piece of trash. -
Have you guys tried to disable the popup? I had this problem happen to me once when I still had the popup enabled but the popup was so annoying that I disabled it right after that and never again I had that problem - and I've used the jack at least once a day for the last 3 months.
-
Happening to me all the time since I got the laptop (Precision). Disabled NVIDIA via their Control Panel in all apps, so I guess it must be Intel's Graphic issue.
Opening tabs with blocks of black boxes or entirely white, so you need to minimize and maximize window to get the content

Has anyone else noticed the screen flickers a little when the brightness is turned down all the way?
-
4K IGZO or 1080p display?
-
Yup, happens occasionally and only notice it when brightness is all the way down at 20-30%, it looks to me more like a subtle adjustment in brightness rather than a flicker though. But I've checked and adaptive brightness is turned off, so don't know what it could be...
-
I have been suffering some freezes caused by IGFXHK.EXE, and seen some reports in this thread but no resolution. I've tried installing updated drivers and reinstalled the Dell latest released driver yesterday, and have not suffered since yesterday. Is there anyone that has more details on this as I couldn't find it.
I'm also interested to find a replacement battery, due to delivery issues at Dell I ordered the 1TB/32GB combi with 4K screen and want to replace the disk and battery at some point. Does anyone know where to order it? Replacement shouldn't be a big issue I assume?!
And last but not least, I accidentally broke the SSD caching and can't get it back to live again
Not very important as the 1TB disk has already been replaced with a 512GB SSD. Not sure what the added value is in combination with a SSD. Or does it completely make no sense to have a SSD/cSSD combi?
-
You have not broke caching, it cannot work unless it had a 2nd platter based HDD, if it detects an SSD it will not activate.
-
So in preparation for getting my xps 15 9550, I went to download the latest drivers from Dell's website. Sweet baby Jesus, there's like a hundred of them- and many what look duplicates. How the hell are you supposed to figure out the right ones to install? Is the Dell software updater reliable to sort it out for you?
-
It worked, until I had a look at the Intel Rapid Storage interface, and accidentially broke it.. now it can't see and no option to reastablish. But this explains it, it won't be possible with 2 SSD as you mention. The reason it probably worked is because I imaged and replaced the platter based hdd with a SSD
