Thanks Pressing. I'm watching the laptop now. Unit is on battery.
    - Power light constantly on
    - Indicator light under trackpad is off
    - Keypad not lit.

I'm far from savvy but it's like its stuck in a pre bios loop:
    - Fans whir momentarily as if starting
    - Backlight flashes
    - Silence
    - Repeats

No Dell logo, can't get to BIOS.

Nope nada. Have tried several times holding down the power button for 30 seconds or more. Unplugged battery and replugged. Same thing. Seems like not completing POST. Just a solid power light and a flashing backlight repeating every 5-10 seconds or so. Never reaches Dell logo.

I appear not to have any LED error sequence codes. Only steady power light.

Rubbish quality video but captures a backlight flash - removed link
Fn+Power - same thing as above
D+Power - full colour slides, indicates screen is fine.

Yep as Pressing said. Having almost given up I decided to try removing the SSD and try a restart.
(I should note that the SSD appeared seated correctly and the screw was secure so nothing visually to suggest an issue).

On restart I finally got to the dell logo and without prompting via F2 it went into the BIOS and reported missing a hard drive. Progress at last. Turned off machine and refitted the SSD and powered up again. This time was able to boot no problem, all issues from the weekend gone.

So rather than an explained fix I can only report my experience. It doesnt explain what could have happened between me briefly web surfing on Friday night, turning off and encountering issues on Saturday morning when I next turned on. The laptop hadn't been moved from the table top or anything.

Relieved to have an accessible 9550 again but obviously there could be an underlying issue. All reported to Dell who speculate a system issue somewhere. I'll be keeping an eye on things but should note that I'm already in an exchange process with Dell anyway for audio issues.

    My experience FWIW.

What you describe is very well known for users of older Crucial SSDs. The fix was/is indeed to disconnect them some time. Another fix is to only connect them to power, not data, for about 20 minutes, they perform an internal reset then. Can also be done by letting the computer wait at the Bios screen. The problem was triggerred mostly on unintended shutdown. You see, everything comes back again...

Hello guys, I am happily using XPS 15 9550 (FHD, i7, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD + 512GB HDD) for 4 months and I managed to fix most minor issues, but i am still not able to figure this out: Why is bluetooth (Dell 1830 adapter, latest BT drivers and bios) transfer speed so slow?
From time to time I am using bluetooth to transfer picture or two from my Galaxy S7 Edge (Exynos version) and speed is reaching about 50KB/s (it is taking about 1 minute to transfer 3MB photo to XPS). It is the same also with other phones, but when transfering same picture between other devices speed is singnificantly faster (like 200KB/s), so problem is definitely on XPS side.
    Do you have same issue?

I've had my machine for over a year and have tried everything to make the bluetooth work properly with no luck whatsoever. At this point I just presume it is the 1830 and am waiting for the Intel AC9260.

I've got the Samsung 950 Pro m.2 (replacing the original 32GB cache) in AHCI as primary disk, and the original 1TB HDD as a storage drive. Should I remove Intel RST? Or is it needed for parking the HDD after x minutes of inactivity (I like less noise)?

Intel RST software doesn't do much in AHCI mode.

Is it really needed to turn off HDD after inactivity?

I've got the Samsung 850 evo m.2 (sata) running on mine in the default raid mode. Any advantage to switching to ahci if I'm not doing nvme? My boot up time is already like 5 seconds.

Never had a problem with the mice other than a bit of response lag. But the audio side, bluetooth headphones, has always been a real pain.

After upgrading my BIOS from 1.2.18 to 1.2.19 I am experiencing random lock-ups of Windows. The mouse pointer still works and I can click the Start menu (which opens), but that's it: keyboard does not work, programs do not respond and I cannot start other programs like the task manager. Only way out is to shut down the laptop by holding its power button 5 secs and restarting it.

When I revert back to BIOS 1.2.18 I have no such lock-ups what so ever.

Is anyone experiencing the same behaviour?

I had that issue with the new Samsung 2.1 NVMe driver. No issue with 1.2.19 though.

That's interesting. I installed the Samsung 2.1 NVMe driver a while ago, which has been working with Dell's 1.2.18 BIOS with no problems. Maybe it does not work well together with 1.2.19.

Did you revert back to the 2.0 or 1.1 NVMe driver of Samsung in combination with Dell BIOS 1.2.19?

Mine had issues on 1.2.18, I never tried it with 1.2.19. I went back to 2.0 with 1.2.18 and never had a problem, and am now running 2.0 on 1.2.19 without issue as well.

It took me a couple of days to notice the issue from 2.1, but that was the problem without a doubt.

Anybody have speaker issues with BIOS 18 or 19? When I plug in earphones or speakers it works fine, but the laptop speakers don't work. Interestingly, when I plug in and out my earphones/speakers, it makes a popping sound, presumably from the speakers.

I tried reinstalling the audio drivers, to no avail. Any insight?

Edit: Nevermind, reverted back to bios 16 and speakers are working again

Thanks for your replies. I went back to BIOS 1.2.18 in combination with the 2.1 NVMe driver, which works just fine.
Hope that Dell also fixes the last bit of the screen flickering on the UHD panel. BIOS 1.2.18 is a great improvement in that respect, but does not solve the issue completely.

Hi All - I'm running BIOS 1.02 on my Win 10 Pro Skylake UHD 9550. I have a couple of issues - I tend to get browser corruption which I believe is from the Intel video drivers, and switching to NVIDIA gpu rendering spins up the fans faster. Any suggestions?
The audio plug fails to cutover audio on running apps when I plug in headphones. It asks me if I want to switch, I say yes, but it doesn't. Closing and opening all browser windows fixes it. If I plugin a USB sound device (DAC) it cuts over instantly, including open browser tabs / videos.

Finally, should I update my BIOS? I know there were known issues last year, but I am fuzzy on the details.

    Thanks!

    "Issues" is putting it kindly.

Take a few minutes to read the threads here and you will see those older BIOS' and drivers were disasters. . .

I reported slow BT speeds in my previous post, but it doesnt seems to be main problem with that Dell 1830 wireless card.
Now I noticed, that it is not possible to stream music through wifi on youtube and use wireless bluetooth speaker connected to laptop at the same time. It just disconnects wifi every few minutes and then reconnects again, so youtube is buffering ... very annoying ...
I would like to replace that wireless card with Intel AC 8260, but I am worried about wifi range, because that intel wifi is only 2x2 antenna system. In my house there are places with very low wifi signal, so I am wondering if that intel card would work there... I dont care about speed, only range...
Do you have some experience with intel ac 8260 range compared to Dell 1830 card?

    Thank you

I tried connecting a JBL bluetooth speaker that connected instantly with 3 phones and two other computers. The JBL unit looked as and souded to be as good quality as any bluetooth speaker box I have seen.

Tried to get it to pair with the 9550 for 30 minutes to no avail. Very irritating I also have the 1830 wireless card. I don't use bluetooth so have ignored the issue for now...

    Hi everyone.
    I've just purchased a Dell XPS 15 9550 with i7, 16 RAM, 512 SSD and 4K Touch.
I plan to run it on Win.7/10 (haven't decided yet - I haven't tried 10 yet and I don't know if I'll like it) and maybe pair it with CentOS.

It'll be my third Dell laptop after two Inspirons and while Dell usually makes pretty good machines I know that I might need some tweaking done on a freshly bought laptop in order for it to work without issues. So I decided to read and get to know about it before it arrives. I wonder if someone created a thread/guide of sorts that would explain at least the basic must-do things for XPS 15 9550 after buying it, the best drivers combination and versions, etc., because reading 300+ pages is going to take a very long time.

Just update everything (BIOS, Thunderbolt firmware, drivers, Dell software) to the newest offered by Dell and then see if you have any problems for which you need solutions.

Hello guys. I've had my Dell XPS 15 9550 for about 10 months. Recently the touch screen would stop working on and off. Last week, it stopped working completely. I've done all the updates and all but no solution. The touchscreen driver isn't present when you look in device manager and in the 'about your pc' page, it says no pen and touch input. If anyone has had this problem I'd appreciate if you can point me in the right direction. Thanks

I have no issues with my touchscreen.
But out of curiosity, in what application/work are you using the touch?

I find it useful when reading on airplanes, then I scroll.
I also find touchscreen useful when doing some image editing, it is easier to follow a contour with you finger than with mousepad or mouse.

Apart from that touchscreen is more of a problem when colleagues want to point at something and accidentally click or drag.

Dell has released Premier Color v3 for the 9560, which finally works with the newest drivers and Windows 10 update. This version works fine also on 9550, although they still offer the crashing v2 at the 9550 support page...

I think DPC is best uninstalled. Especially if you calibrate, doesn't let calibration stick. It is possible to find the color profiles in its program folder, copy them to the windows color management, import them, then switch among them in Windows CM. If all your relevant programs are color-managed, no need to switch at all.

To start with, stop spamming the same question 3 times in 3 posts.
Maybe if you did that you would see you already had an answer http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...ache-ssd-upgrade.787418/page-11#post-10453347

So, I am going to be buying the 9560 in the next week or so once I get my refund through. Thing is my daughter doesn't need the 1tb SSD and 32gb ram. I had thought of throwing them straight into my 9560 but the ram is 2133 not 2400, while I know it won't make much difference me being me would like to have 2400 ram and probably a faster SSD even though my Toshiba is 2400/1500 knowing I can shove a faster one in will bug the hell out of me!

Throwing this out to UK owners with 16gb ram and a 512gb Toshiba XG3 (I know where I stand with the Toshiba)
Anyone fancy a swap + cash for my ram & SSD?

Obviously I would put this through the classifieds once confirmed. I just wanted to put the feelers out to get an idea.

    Hi GoNz0,

I have the 9550 with 2x8GB RAM and the 512GB Toshiba (NVMe THNSN5512GPU7 NV). Just for curiosity how much would it be the extra cash for the swap?

    Regards,
