    Hi all!

I was wondering how much a Dell XPS 15 L501x would go for used? I have the 1080p screen, 6gb ram, i5-560m, and nVidia 420m. It was $1400 USD. I got this computer to replace my old macbook, but I'm kind of missing the streamline and polish of apple laptops :3 Just trying to weigh my options as far as "trading" this. There's no 30-day return policy, right? What are Dell's return policies? Any help or info from any of you notebook wizards would be much appreciated. Thanks!

    Cheers.

Not to highjack your thread, but I believe there is a 30-day return policy for any reason, but you're subject to restocking fees.

I'm looking to possibly send mine back when I get it as well. I'm not 100% sure, but we'll see.

I believe it's 21 days from when they shipped it- better hurry. There's a big restocking fee I think (10%?) unless the laptop was mis-configured or defective.

Dell values its relationship with you, and offers you the option to return most products you purchase directly from Dell. You may return eligible products for a credit or a refund of the purchase price paid, less shipping and handling and any applicable restocking fees, as set forth in detail below.

21-Day Return Period for Certain Hardware and Software Products and Accessories: Unless you have a separate agreement with Dell, or except as provided below, all hardware, accessories, peripherals, parts, and media-based software (provided that the software is unopened and still in its sealed package or, if delivered electronically, software that you have not accepted by clicking "I agree to these Terms and Conditions" button), may be returned within 21 days from the date on the packing slip or invoice for a credit or a refund of the purchase price paid, less shipping and handling and any applicable restocking fees. Any product returned to Dell without prior authorization from Dell will be considered an unauthorized return, and the customer will not receive credit for the product and Dell will not ship the product back to you.

Taken from Dell's website. You're right gpig. The restocking fee is 15% as well.

My above post's point which I forgot to write was that the laptop would probably lose more value if sold used than the restocking fee, even though the restocking fee is pretty high.

Oh yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. I'm hoping that if I decide to return mine (haven't received yet) that they won't charge the restocking fee. I didn't upgrade anything from the quick ship model, so we'll see.

If you don't mind me asking, why are you considering returning yours? I love the machine, I think it's really great and if you're used to PCs I bet you'll like it. The speakers and the screen are every bit as good as you've heard. My problem is that a) the screen squishes text a lot. The 1920x1080 resolution is more common for 22" desktop screens, so on a laptop, it can be really small. and b) small issues (screen tears and spazzes out, sometimes video sound quality breaks) add up, and just make the overall experience much less smooth than that of a mac. I think for PC laptops though, this is one of the best mid-range ones out there right now.

they send prepaid labels to ship it back, and shipping is usually free anyway, and if you ask nicely the waive the restocking fee, just tell them this notebook really isnt for you. Its a matter of luck, if you get the right rep youll have your fees waived

Ah, it must have been 1400 including the shipping. Thank you! Money is less the issue - for me, -200 is a price to pay for a new main computer I'll be satisfied with.

Are you guys sure that the return policy covers computers? Even customized ones?

yes, even customized computers can be returned..unless you got in engraved which Dell doesn't offer on the XPS anyway..just email the Dell RMA dep. rep and ask if them to waive the restocking fee, they reply within a few hours so it doesnt hurt to just check

I don't know. I emailed last night, and still haven't received a reply. I'm still waiting, hopefully I won't get a restocking fee, so I can buy the PC that I want.
