I'm considering ordering the Dell XPS 15 (or possibly XPS 17) and have two questions:

    1. If I order one, I will likely opt for the 750GB hard drive. Does anyone know what brand hard drive Dell is installing in its XPS 15?

    2. I noticed the nVidia GPU has an optional television tuner. Does the TV tuner option allow viewing of network/cable television, or is a subscription required? I apologize if this question is naive, I've never seen this TV tuner option before on a PC.

Thanks for reading and any information.

If this helps I recently ordered a V13 with a 500GB 7200rpm drive. It's really a crap shoot as to what you will get, just from experience. I'm hoping I get a 500GB Samsung drive as they supposedly run cool and quiet but it doesn'ttell me the drive I got on my invoice.

    I have a seagate 500gb 7200 rpm.
I think if you have TV tuner, all you need to do is plug in your tv cable in the tuner of laptop and it will work as a TV.
Of course you will need active cable connection. You dont need to buy a separate connection, you can split an existing one.

Dell sources their drives from multiple vendors and the last two I got were Western Digital.

For the tuner, you'd need a service for it. You could also hook up an OTA antenna to get the basic channels available in your area.

Thanks for the responses, they are all helpful. My first Dell notebook PC (still in use) contained a Western Digital 320GB 5400RPM Scorpio Blue, so I was curious if WD was Dell's official supplier of HDs; I purchased my second Dell notebook PC on the secondary market and the seller had replaced the OEM HD with a 500GB 7200RPM Seagate that performed well, but seemed to expire prematurely. However, before it crashed, the Seagate convinced me of the virtues of 7200RPM (and higher if feasible in the future) speed. I have since replaced the HDs in both PCs with Western Digital (WD) 7200RPM Scorpio Blacks. Anyway...I am intrigued Dell uses several suppliers. I am admittedly partial to WD based on my ownership experience of the Scorpio Blacks and several WD external HDs--I certainly realize other HD brands have similar or even better performance--and wish Dell would allow the customer to select the HD brand in her/his new PC.

    Thanks again,

Someone else mentioned that the tuner card comes with a rabbit-ears antenna for over-the-air broadcasts. It also comes with a coax connector, so you can plug it into your existing cable feed.
