I came from a Dell XPS 13 which had great keyboard/mouse driver support on Windows 8.1 and was wondering if the 15 had something similar? Specifically, I am looking for:

    1) Fn keys to be media keys BUT become Fn keys when Alt is held. For example, they are media keys but pressing Alt + F4 closes a program, instead of Fn + Alt + F4 currently
    2) A better touchpad driver that allows 3- and 4-finger swipe gestures to be customized

For #1.... You can easily change the behavior of that in BIOS.

Look for a setting called "Function Lock" or Fn lock, and it will control the default behavior of the Fn key

I've already checked BIOS and this toggle does not fix the issue. When I toggle it to media, Alt + F4 requires Alt + Fn + F4, exactly not what I wanted and described in my OP. I want the Fn keys to auto revert to Fn from media when Alt is held. My previous Dell XPS 13 did this

On my 9350, I only have to hold down FN to make one of the function keys work, so FN+F5 to refresh a page. No ALT required. Not the same on yours?

I am trying to get the Alt + F4 (close) feature working without the Fn key. When media keys are set on my old Dell XPS 13 (2012 model), I could just press Alt + F4 to close the open window, even if media keys were set (so pressing F4 by itself would pause music). However, here I have to press Alt + Fn + F4 to close.

Currently, I just have Fn keys turned off so Alt + F4 closes the window directly, but this also makes it harder for me to use the multimedia keys.

Basically, on my old Dell, when Fn keys are set, pressing Alt automatically presses Fn as well, because the laptop is smart enough to know Alt + Pause doesn't mean anything, but Alt + F4 does. Currently, on my new XPS 15, Alt + F4 doesn't do anything when Fn keys are set.

    Does this make sense?

Yes, I do understand now. And I'm sorry I have no help to offer, except to possibly check out Auto Hotkey. I'm on an XPS 13, and the "end" key is in the most ridiculous of places. However, my "Insert" key is in the upper right corner and I never us it. So I used Auto Hotkey to remap "end" to the "insert" button. It was extremely easy to use as well. AHK will do exactly what you're wanting- make a certain key combination perform a certain function.

    Hope it helps.
