I do. I was really concerned with shortage discussions on both the 6300 and the backlit keyboard, and a few months ago I tried to order a Studio 17 with the 1080p and my order got postponed every week for almost two months, due to the screen shortage. It was reassuring to see the status changing! Are you in the US? What's the status of your order?

Same here, playing games such as Crysis 1 or Crysis Warhead, Starcraft 2, Modern Warfare 2, and Black Ops is important for a XPS laptop, particularly the 420M GPU.

Or do I need the i7 / 435M combo to pull it off? I really want the switchable graphics so I can only hope Dell makes the 435 an i5 option. Hope a Dell dev tech is reading this.

Yup, I'm in the US. Mine has been in production since the day after I ordered it (11/1). I check my order status 10 times a day! I'm getting a little skeptical that it will ship on Monday, I guess I will find out soon...

    Does yours have blu ray?

I ordered mine on 29/10, it's been in production since two hours after I made the order and it's suppose to ship friday, and I'm also very skeptical about that date for some reason... =/

This is horrible - Dell India has cancelled my order without furnishing any reason.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

    ^^ Dude
    I have been through it
Your next status will be cancelled
Then dell rep will mail you with a new order number and a EDD which is around 1 month from then
Better keep calling them and telling them to deliver fast
else you will end up getting it by New Year eve

[India] similar situation with me now . Dell cancelled my order and reordered the 8th Nov order on 17th Nov. EDD shifted from 23rd Nov to 16 December now. Atleast the site now shows work in progress instead of "Order Recevied".  :(

Dell in Germany is offering 186 Euros discount on XPS 15 with i7 until next week. Do you think they might have better offers after that for Christmas? Does anyone have any idea about Dell's policies on this matter?

I'm seeing about the same in terms of battery life now that I have optimized everything.

My single biggest issue at this point is heat. I should not be idling between 50-60c with light web surfing. :/ I might even be able to squeeze out a little more life if I can get the Fan to stop kicking in constantly.

Oh UPS and NewEgg, WHERE is my AS5? Oh yeah, Tennessee.

I'm getting between 5-6 hours on my 9 cell. I haven't experienced any heat issues and I never hear the fan when just surfing...

The fan running full speed all the time (just surfing the web) was one of the main reasons I replaced my 1530 with this.

Hopefully the AS5 will fix it.

Because it's easier just to do it myself. That way I know it will be done right. My issue is with impatience. Newegg messed up the first order and it was never shipped. so I'm having to wait to fix the problem.

Did you receive your laptop before all the "engineering issues" with the palm rest delayed orders? Certainly seems to lend some weight that the palm rest issue was just poorly applied thermal paste causing heat problems, and that yours was sent out before they "corrected" this issue.

Question for those of you with the GT435M:

Anand's review says that NVidia's Optimus GPU switching doesn't work with the i7 CPU. Does this mean you have just a normal discrete system (only the NV GPU driver loaded, no Intel GMA driver loaded)?
Edit: AngryPyros pointed out the obvious: the i7 doesn't have an integrated GPU, so of course you're running only off the NV GPU.

Also what sort of battery life have people seen with the i7 + GT435M?

    Hey guys,

I got my laptop yesterday and I really like it, and thoguh I'm slightly disappointed it doesn't have a backlit keyboard (UK) I'm not rally bothered by that cos I don't like to use it in the dark anyway.

What is bothering me is that I can't update to the nvidia 260.99 Verde graphics drivers. When I try installing it says my system isn't supported. Are any of you experiencing this issue or do you have a workaround for it?

    I'm currently on the factory 259 drivers. I've got the i5-460m, gt420m with blu-ray

    Thanks guys!

Thinking of buying, but interested to know from those who have the 1080p screen option on what its like living with the small icons and text of this high res on a 15.6" screen ?
Ive owned an XPS M1710 since they came out with the 17.3" 1920x1200 True life screen, and have got accustomed to this res, but just concerned that going down to a 15" screen with a similar high res will make everything even smaller. I am deliberating between the L501 and the L701 But not so sure im going to like the 700P res of the new 17"

I just did a fresh format on my XPS 15, but the drivers for the GT 435 are unavailable. Dell's mirror is broken and NVIDIA's direct drivers are incompatible. Can anyone provide a mirror to their drivers? Thank you.

Really? The HDD light is on the back?!?!?

Good point. Why place it there. Do you have to
turn the laptop around to even see it?

I noticed a similar inconvenience on the HP DV6.

The HDD light is on the right hand side.
You have to twist/turn your body and neck to even see the HDD light.

I'm baffled at these design decisions.

The HDD light's usefulness is for visual confirmation of activity.

If there's an HDD light, at least place it where it's easily seen
    for convenience and usefulness. :)
