I recall that post, and you did have replies. Some people said they had no such feeling on their laptops.

My XPS 15 does not have such a charge. My left hand can sense vibration from the HD, but that's all.

toronto, I tried searching for the post and couldn't find it. At least I have found someone who has the same issue and I am not insane! :)

I find it strange that at least 1 other person has this issue whereas others have no issue, like yourself toronto. Design fault? Faulty laptop? (I sent it back and it's come back though the static is less noticeable but still there).

This is a normal problem for aluminum laptops, Macbooks also suffer from this.
It seems like some people just can't feel it, I've let a number of people 'stroke' the aluminum when I clearly felt the electricity but some people just can't. Also, when using a correctly grounded wall outlet, the problem will be gone.

//Edit: Not only laptops have it, When charging my Motorola Milestone (droid) with Metal Casing, I also have the problem.

You should not use an ungrounded outlet.

Has anyone compared the XPS 15 built-in speakers to the Logitech Z305 laptop speakers? I am just curious if the XPS 15 speakers are better? Thanks.

works fine in proper outlets. - its not a "DELL" feat. goes for everything electric ...

It sounds like your speakers are defective. Contact Dell to get a technician over to install new speakers. I have found using Dell Chat is the best method of contacting them. If you call them, you will probably be on hold for a long time, and then be forced to talk to someone who can't speak English.

Do some testing to discover if it is the speakers.

Play music from various sources: CD; web streaming; media player playing files on your hard drive. See if any of them doesn't or does have the symptoms.

Play music through headphones. If that also has the crackling sound, then it's not a speaker problem.

Try playing music when running on battery versus when plugged into AC.

You want to narrow down the issue as much as possible to save your time and Dell's time.

So.. I've had quite a few problems with my l502x allready, and now there's another one.. it's nothing major, but it's kinda annoying :/

When I for example watch a movie or listen to some music, I get random lag in audio and video. sometimes it's 10 seconds between each lag, and sometimes it might also be an hour. It feels like the whole computer slows down like 10 times in both audio and video. this is kinda pissing me off. I can't listen to a song without having to listen to this friggin distortion 3 times.

I have also had the battery icon flashing orange a few times when doing heavy tasks ( like playing skyrim; ;). Maybe the battery has something to do with it?

The battery issue: When you are doing heavy tasks( AKA playing new games), the notebook heats up above 95°c. But that temp is higher than the temp that the battery is supossed to work. So, it don't charge. And the icon start to flash.
You must wait some time doing light work in order to heat down the battery and allowed it to charge.

pd: English is not my language, so ignore the mistakes :p

The audio lag/audio shutter seems to effect a lot of people and there is no official fix provided by Dell which is very upsetting considering it's there top end media notebook.

I've had to put up with it for a while and I've tried all possible solutions with very little luck.

There is lots of discussion on the dell forums below:

    Hello,

Yes, also interested in A07 bios update? Any experience out there?

Also, can anyone help with the following? My 502x mousepad is really jumpy. It skips all over the place when I boot up laptop first like its improperly calibrated - has a mind of its own. Hoever, if I put the laptop to sleep for a few seconds by closing the lid and then load computer up again the mousepad is back to normal.

Any thoughts on steps to end this silly little issue??

    Thanks :)

You can actually download the new Bios via the Dell Download Manager. Its a software that shipped with the original Install. I didn´t install it because i will wait until we know what has actually changed and what problems we might have to face(looking to the XPS17 Bios Problems..)

Hi all, quick dumb question. My Laptop is supposed to have a 2Gb Nvidea graphics card.

When I check the graphics adaptor it states
    1696Mb Total Available Memory
    64Mb dedicated memory

'Speccy' software says my graphics is:
    Generic PnP Monitor
    (Illegal Vendor ID)

    Does this sound right?

Does the built-in TV tuner support ClearQAM (used for basic cable - which does not use a receiver)? Or does it only support ATSC (digital over-the-air programming)?

So i got my xps 15 about a month ago. Some things I am having issues with. The keyboard flexes a lot! the performance and battery life are not that great. Although it looks good and it feels lighter than my m1530 that i had before. One annoying thing is it defaulting to the intel graphics card on a lot of stuff. Then I have to go in and manually switch it to use nvidia. Kind of annoying but I can deal with it.

The XPS 15 L502x is not the only Dell laptop with the keyboard flexing. My grandpa's L702x has that same problem, and so does my church's brand-new media laptop, which is a Dell Vostro 3750.

Regarding battery life, do you have the six-cell or the nine-cell? I have the nine-cell and I usually get 4-6 hours of battery life. Try switching to "Power Save Mode" and turn down your backlight when you are running on battery, and don't do anything CPU- or GPU-intensive.

Its is a problem I have experienced on my Dell and on previous HP laptops ... most likely associated with a less than perfect earth leakage trip switch. Check if you experience this issue elsewhere than at your home.

I've been browsing the internet, but I unfortunately cannot get my question answered. I've contacted Dell multiple times, still no answer. So I hope somebody here is able to answer my question. Thanks in advance.

I am about to order a XPS 15 with the specs as stated below. Before I do I wanna know the technical specifications of the 256 GB SSD delivered with it, such as brand and type. More specifically I want to know if it will have SATA II / SATA300 or SATA III / SATA600. I found out that the chipset is able to do SATA600. I also found out that a few months ago Dell was shipping de Samsung PM810 which is limited to SATA300.

So, does anyone know which SSD will be shipped if I order today. Or is there anyone who ordered a similar system and can verify it through Windows device manager.

Thanks again, 'cause I want to order it soon since the Dell offer will expire very soon.

In most laptops, as soon as you plug into the sound-out (headphone) jack, the on-board speakers are disabled. It would be good to be able to use the on-board speakers and supplement them with a small external woofer or a couple of small external speakers.

Has anyone been able to do this on the XPS 15? Many months ago someone wrote that he had been able to do it, by clicking some option in the Realtek audio panel that appeared when he plugged into the sound-out (headphone) jack. I've been unable to do that. If anyone knows how to use sound-out without disabling the on-board speakers, please share.

Solutions or ideas can be posted in this thread

why would you want to do that? I think I read about a method but I'll have to look it up for you. I'm not on my xps 15 right now, but iirc you can go to the nvidia settings and turn on some menu so that you can simply right click any shortcut/application and choose "run with graphics processor -> [default, nvidia graphics]" or something like that... this forces whatever you want to run on the graphics card. Also, there is a tray icon that you can enable that, when pressed, will show you all the processes running on the graphics card.

I used to want to do what you want to do too because I wasn't sure whether it was really running on the nvidia graphics or not but with the two options above it let me run exactly what I want on the graphics card, and let me know that it WAS actually running. I think this is the better way because you get the power- and heat- advantages of using the intel graphics for things that don't need the nvidia graphics. Anyways, if you need it for some other reason then I will try to find a way.

I get a BIT of lag when I am on powersaving profile but once I set it to high performance all the slow downs go away... what else are you running at the same time?

You need to unpair them... maybe try holding down a reset button on the headphone and deleting the device from your phone.

What fan issue is there? I don't have any fan problems anymore but I did change some settings on my laptop.. can't remember what but I can tell you my settings to see if that will help.

Try the calibrated colour profile at the beginning of this thread.

Also, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a really simple battery script that I threw together using the dell battery meter, samurize and autohotkey. I will get screenshots when I get home but basically it is just a simple bar along the right side of my desktop that shows how much battery I have left, and automatically turns battery charging on/off at preset values. I can also click the bar to manually turn charging on/off. Currently I have it set to turn charging off at 90%, and turn it on once it drops below that.

Use the bracket that was installed in your laptop and that will be good to go
