what software came with the blue ray player? I have ordered from the UK and was able to get the blue ray player included but I could not find any software listed on the order confirmation that pertains to the blue ray player.

Friends, I'm going to be ordering tomorrow. So as a final check, I need to ask you, L502X owners, two important questions:
1. Do the CPU and GPU temperatures go up to and linger around 90+ Celcius degrees for everyone during gaming? Do the bottom of the laptop, keyboard and palmrest area get heated, too (during gaming)? Do the laptop stay cool in idle mode?
2. How is the fan noise? During gaming and in idle mode...
Thanks in advance for your replies. -
I know this has been mentioned before but i still cant seem to figure it out. I have the 6230 in my system and connected to my old netgear router. It connects perfectly but speeds are at 6-7 kps. Does it have anything to do with the 2 wires everyone is talking about? Thanks in advance
-
Can you connect a monitor to the Mini-DisplayPort AND HDMI for Dual external monitors???
-
No, the laptop stays cool on the outside (idle and gaming)
Fan noise when gaming is comparable to other laptops I've owned (actually it is much quieter than the Dell D620).
Quite possibly.
Yes. -
I read the manual online and didnt see anything about this but how long of a charge if any should you let the battery take in before first use?
-
There's an insert on the protective cloth that says it should charge for 12 hours before taking it off AC power, but my battery was already fully charged. I still kept it AC connected for a few hours before taking it off, just in case.
-
You really won't find any difference between i7 and i5 in everyday tasks. Many people buy the i7 simply because it's the highest in the hierarchy and not because they actually need all that horsepower.
-
You can? I didn't think that 2 simultaneous outputs on the L502x was possible, from what I read somewhere else on here?
-
I know that NVIDIA notebook GPUs are capable of 3 external monitors plus laptop display...but its limited by the manufacturer.
It is possible for 2 external monitors...according to a 'Dell Chat' rep you can even do 2 external monitors plus the laptop screen.
I even asked twice...just to be sure. Here's the conversation:

Hey guys there was concern about the high temps of the processors in the XPS 15, are you seeing any issues with heat etc? How about when gaming?
-
You can run the internal display plus two externals simultaneously. The only limitation is that you can only clone to the mini-DisplayPort. The HDMI output only supports extending the desktop, not cloning.
-
Maybe i'm wrong, but i have read that with new Bios A04 plus last drivers for intel and last Nvidia driver (from Dell) it's possible to clone through HDMI.
-
PowerDVD 9.6 with 3D support.
-
Actually my computer locked up the other day playing games. But it be fair i am also overclocked to 550m speeds but even then the gpu does not really heat up that much its the cpu. I am just hoping it was a random windows freeze.
-
That was probably me. Since I applied all three updates at once, I can't confirm which one did the trick. I can confirm that it now works, though.

Anyone having difficulties with their USB 3.0 and or 2.0 ? Be it with external drives, mice, keyboards, etc...
Sounds like a problem that has yet to be fixed appropriately.

Having a problem with hooking up the laptop to the TV. hooking my 1080p laptop to a 720p tv is not yielding good results. there is no option for me to extend the desktop or it even recognizing my laptop display so i can make 1 primary and 1 secondary. Its basically a big clone screen and when i identify it they are both 1 so i am sure its a clone screen. any help in this department? my last 1645 hooked up well.
EDIT i found the fn button 1 and tried using it with no success it is actually on extended screen my desktop is on the screen on the extended is on my laptop. I do not have any options to switch the displays. If i use clone mode the tv blacks out since its 720p and my laptop is 1080p.
Right now i am blaming nvidia for this i can not get it working correctly. the intel graphics card shows nothing as well.

I wanted to know if a XPS laptop is purchased in U.S with a 1 year basic service plan and then brought to India... will it be under warranty in India too ?
Also wanted to know from where I could get discount coupons for Dell XPS?
And what is the average delivery time for XPS Laptops in U.S.? My friend might be leaving for India in two weeks... will it be possible for him to get the laptop before he leaves U.S ?? -
@Tvdang
There is a way on nvidia to get display 1 and display 2, but you cannot let windows handle it.
Also, the same issue with amd as well. I just find the nvidia, more intuitive.
Anyways state how you are connecting it to the other screen.
What are your intention? I'm confused if you are trying to clone or to extend. -
i want to extend which it is doing already but the screens are switched. i want my desktop to be on the laptop screen and the extended part to be on the tv.
BUT nvidia control does not recognize my laptop display so i can not do anything. Normally there should be a 1 and a 2 in the screen shot above but there isn't. Even though both displays are displaying . -
K I'm assuming you are connected them via hdmi.
Reminder do not use the switch screen function key, they don't work like they used to before 2010.
Force the laptop to single display mode and disconnect from TV. Replug, do not let it automatically configure it, force it to single display on the laptop. Replug till it stops automatic adjustment.
Open up nvidia control panel, it looks like the same spot you posted the screenshot on. From there, you should see 2 displays with options to set main or extend ... etc. -
I fixed it. I installed the new nvidia march 27 driver i was still using the original driver off The disk.
-
Nice.
i haven't used the newer beta driver yet. -

Don't bother to ask in this thread. I doubt someone will answer that (I asked similar question and noone answered me #284)
Good luck -
@Dreamliner, Falcon, MAC - thanks for the feedback on the multi screen abilities - that's very good news. So this laptop is now faster than my overclocked i920 desktop & supports more screens than my dedicated GTX260 card.
That's progress for you!
Cheers

Is anyone else experiencing some major flex on the lid? I didn't see this mentioned in any reviews so am wondering if it's just my computer that has that. If you press on the middle it will push down quite a bit and feels as if the screen is gonna break.
-
just tried it out and YES. But does that really matter? Does not matter too much to me.
-
I have the recent drivers as well as A04 BIOS and still cannot clone to the HDMI port. Still only get the extended desktop. What am I missing?
-
if i can remember i could clone after getting that new driver. I can not test right now since i am not home.
-
well mine should be here tomorrow, lets hope im early on fedex home deliverys route
-
Never mind, I found it. In the nVidia control panel, you have to right-click on the display icons and the options are there. You can clone any two of the three possible displays. TBH, I hadn't right clicked there when I first checked out the capabilities so it may well have been possible before but I didn't find it.
Glad this got sorted out! -
Well couldn't the screen get damaged if there's not enough reinforcement and the lid is put under some pressure? I carry my laptop around in my backpack so there's other objects in there...
-
well i do not think i've owned a laptop that didn't do this yet. Unless you own maybe a macbook that is aluminum.
dell xps 15
dell xps 1645
dell xps 1340
dell 9300
dell 6000
dell latitude d800
If i can remember correctly they all were like that if enough pressure was applied. -
The XPS 15 is aluminum on both sides.
-
If anyone has something to contribute feel free !
Ideally, I'd like to have complete step by step instructions on how to:
1) Make a recovery / repair disk. (Sounds like a piece of cake)
2) Be able to evaluate which "bloatware" you can do without, and how to remove it. (I mean, what is the "cozy calendar" that I've been seeing on everyones invoices ???... Is it actually something useful that got a horrible name ???) Any insight into what can be removed without compromising system stability would be appreciated.
3) Which updates and drivers to install and what's the correct order.
4) Including plenty of L502X owner specific pointers along the way.
Post your thoughts/advice/resources here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-xps-studio-xps/566977-dell-xps-15-l502x-tools-updates.html#post7326060
Being able to consolidate all that info in on place would rawk!!!
Thanks to all the people that have contributed their time and effort !!! -
I'm glad you fixed it. People don't seem to know about the Windows shortcut for this, though, so I'm going to add it to the discussion.
Hold down the Windows key (next to Alt and Fn) and press P. Windows-P brings up the Projector menu, but you can think of it as the external monitor menu. From here you can quickly select Internal only/External Only/Clone/Extend. -
If by aluminum you mean plastic that is brushed and painted to look like aluminum, then yes.
-
u can go for speed delivery for extra bucks..
ping me at [email protected] to know some information ..i think posting email on forum is not a punishable offense here -
Got my XPS15 today, looks great.
some cons:
HEAVY!
keyboard takes some time to get used too.
CD/DVD drive kinda cheap.
big ac adapter.
Specs:
i7-2630QM
FHD B-RGLED
6GB RAM
540 GT
640GB 7200rpm
CD/DVD Drive
Wireless-N 1030 and Bluetooth 3.0
6cell.
I guess the first thing that I'm gonna do is a clean windows install. -
Hey People,
I was very happy to receive my L502X today. So far I've loved it but I have one big problem.
When I set the laptop on a steady table it shakes one one side when I put my hands to type. I discovered this and thought that maybe the rubber bumpers on each corner of the extendent 9 cell battery must be missaligned. So I took the battery pack off and put it back on the table again. This time it was resting on its 4 original "bumbers" and still on the lower left corner the bumber was not touching the surface hence the whole thing shakes when put my arms on it to type.
I am very upset with this imperfection as it is highly annoying when the laptop rocks back and forth.
My question to you:
Does any of you experience the same issue? is it like I fear a missalignment of the entire frame or is it just one uneven "bumber" which is causing this "rocking" Strange thing is that the rocking is there with and without the battery pack installed. Can you shed some light on this.
Also, how would you proceed. Would you just "add some substance" to the bumbers to make it even or would you call dell?
I've already waited long enough for my dell and I don't want to send it in and wait for it even longer only to have them open it up and refurbish it but I am very unpleased about this and don't know exactly what to do.
One last quesstion: Will this missaligment affect the internal components of my xps or cause any sort of internal damage over time?
Thank you very much for your input -
Hey all, I remember in some thread someone posting instructions on how to make some sort of batch file that you should run everytime after you do windows update and whatnot in order to make the machine boot up a little faster. If someone could point me in the right direction for this I would be appreciative.
-
Here's a pretty straight forward tutorial. I learned some stuff
YouTube - How to Speed Up Your Windows Boot Time
Hope this helps... I know I'm going to try it when I get mine
-
That sucks. If the actual frame/body is warped then send it back definitely.
Take a really good look at it... if you can tell what's causing it... if it's unstable, it's unstable and you should send it back. -
I have a question...
I want to create a system image and I'm not sure how much space I'll need
The storage options I've been considering are DVD+R, USB flash drive, or a external portable drive.
I'm leaning toward the USB flash option. I just need to know what size flash drive to get. The storage capacity just has to be big enough to hold the system image data since that's all I'll be putting on there.
Thanks
-
Bro just tell them to send you the chasis and everything and put it in yourself. I just took mine apart. Its really easy
-
Bah fedex is on a roll, one weather delay and now a label redo, looks like it will be two days late
-
Is there any way I could find out if its the chasis. Or the bumber
-
Are you looking to create a recovery image (with datasafe) to get you back to factory, or just an image of your current windows install? I used the datasafe software to make a factory recovery image on a USB stick last night and it took around 9GB. An image of your windows install would vary in size depending on what you have installed.
On another note... would anyone happen to have screenshots of everything listed in Device Manager on a factory install? I completely forgot to do that before formatting last night.
-
You could use the factory recovery you did before, and get it and then reformat.
I don't have a screenshot of my device manager, but I do have a complete system nfo (it's over 50 pages) I exported for the sake of clean install. But it's not with me at the moment, it would be faster to do the reinstall than to wait for someone.
