It's disabled. And like I said...my ancient work desktop works fine in Opera 12. No issues except that that computer has a pitifully small amount of RAM. This thing should be able to run without me fiddling with settings.

I can't see any l502x models on the UK Dell website.
Can anyone confirm they've exhausted the stock?

add me to the club, just got a previously returned new lx502 to replace a 501 that had repeated motherboard issues. Pretty nice machine, came with a 2670QM, 540M, 1TB HD, intel 6230, and a touch screen. Could have lived without the touch screen for a 1080p, but my wife likes the idea of it a lot.

I liked the idea of a 1 TB HD, but I didn't want the reduced speed (1 TB is 5400 RPM), so I got the 750 MB which is 7200 RPM.

I got Skyrim during the Steam summer sale and my L502x (i5-whatever, Geforce 525M, 8GB RAM) runs it like a dream. I overclocked the video card from 600mhz to 735 with no loss in stability, too, and barely higher temps. Not sure of the performance gains since I was only testing for stability and had my girlfriend play while I was cooking dinner, but I tested it at 700mhz and saw around a 3-4 FPS increase.

is 6.45 ttd to 1 usd and its better than spedning 10000 for a l521X that has wifi issues that seems to be not the card alone but also the system design causing it

The L502X does not support mSATA SSD in the PCIe slot.

You can always have SATA SSD (boot/OS/apps) in the primary bay and SATA HDD (storage) in the optical bay via a caddy adapter.

    I have 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD in my L502X.

So Dell replaced my touchscreen, again...and the new one is worse than the first one. Unusable. And then to top it off I was unable to get a hold of my "Dell case manager" (pfft). Whenever that expletive deleted calls me I'm just going to ask for a partial refund since the touchscreen was an OPTION at the time I bought the machine. This is BS.

I'm just gonna buy a better screen later on and install it myself. The second technician, by the way, barely knew what he was doing compared to the first person who came out to fix my laptop.

Haha, spoke too soon! They decided to honor my previous request and are sending me the 1080p screen. That couldn't POSSIBLY have gone better! It took over a month of annoyance but they definitely resolved this satisfactorily.

I HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. The screen has been replaced twice, and coincidentally, while the light blue patches across the screen seems to be irregular, the second screen shows the exact same pattern! Now they're saying it might be the motherboard and so we're sending the laptop to Dell to get the motherboard replaced.

I am meant to have an Internal DVB-T TV Tuner in my outlet laptop.
I want to make sure it's actually there, but can't see it in device manager.
Without opening the thing up, how can it be determined whether or not it's in my system?

FWIW, I found the solution to this weird problem. For some reason the driver for the "Generic PnP Monitor" was uninstalled. Simply running the "check for hardware changes" did the trick - it installed the driver and I was able to change the brightness settings again.

Hey all, I wanted to ask you guys' opinion for this system exchange due to the graphic freezing issue (I'm sure some of you have heard of L502x locking up)

So this is what I have right now:
And this is what Dell offered me now (after two seperate system exchange offers which were DOWNGRADES):
I do see several improvements over the system I have right now, however, I did insist them on the 1080p and the "horsepower" of the laptop for my engineering classes (programming, MATLAB, etc etc). As far as I can tell CPU, RAM, HDD, battery, and TV tuner have been upgraded/added. However, I'm pretty sure that's not 1080p LCD panel and I'm not so sure about the wireless card. Lastly, I don't think that's a backlit keyboard.

Could you guys give some of your opinion on whether I should accept this or not?

% Sidenote: Now I am working with a person from Dell who claims that he's the manager (of what, I do not know) and the name is Michael.

I've been fighting for 1080p panel for over a month now. So I don't know what else to do now. If I remember correctly, one of the reps told me that they don't have any 1080p panels in stock but this time I was reassured by the manger guy that I will get the proper screen.

You could always ask the manager to guarantee in writing (email) that he would send out a tech to swap out the screen and keyboard. He may be willing to do that. I can't speak for them, but it never hurts to ask.

I'll try that again. I asked about that before (not with the manager) and the rep told me it was not possible since it is part of the 'defective' unit.

Update: The manager told me that's a definite no.

Ok. So here's the list of the changes from what I can gather:

What the manager told me was it is a fair trade-off and I understand that. But there's a reason I paid extra for those three downgraded parts. Do I just accept as is for the reason being it's fair deal or do I still fight for 1080p screen?

Just unscrew and open the panel on the underside of the laptop. You can then access the RAM, Wi-Fi card, and TV tuner. The TV tuner should be near the Wi-Fi card.

It sounds like Dell forgot to install the drivers for the TV tuner. You can download them from the Dell Support website. It should be listed on the website under "Video." If the drivers don't install properly, that would mean that the TV tuner is either missing or not connected properly.

Also, Dell should have given you an external antenna, as well as a dongle that allows you to connect a standard coax cable to your computer. You should contact Dell and request that they send you both of these parts. When I received my computer in July 2011, they did not send me a dongle, so when I contacted Dell, I received the dongle the next day.

    It's... not?

The exchange isn't about the manufacturer's convenience. It's about the consumer's requirements. You need a functional machine with the working space of FHD and the Bluetooth-capable wireless adapter. Whenever a manufacturer says "this is a fair-value trade," you should respond "it's not an equal-function trade."

As the consumer, you deserve what you pay for and nothing less. Its their prerogative to give you a strictly superior machine; its not okay for them give you a machine that is inferior in any respect. If you ever find yourself hesitating over a compromise then reject it.

If they refuse to give you what you paid for (and you paid for certain functionality) then they're derelict in their responsibilities to you.

Personally, I have mine set to
    MaxxBass: 100
    MaxxTreble:40
    MaxxStero: 40
    MaxxDialog: On
    MaxxVolume: On
    Leveler: Off
    No EQ.

Bass distortion is not a problem for me as I use FFDshow to re-route to LFE which helps remove most crackles and distortion.

Agreed. If they can't provide you with equal (or in sometimes rare cases better) specs, you should make it very clear to them that you will not accept the replacement.

For stuff like RAM, ODD, or HDD, I normally wouldn't care if it was a downgrade since you can easily replace that on your own. But components like the screen, CPU, GPU, you must fight back for because those are usually "permanent", and essentially the most important components you paid for.

Thank you for your input. I've trying to push for "equal" parts for screen, CPU, GPU, WiFi, and etc etc. but what Dell's been doing is send out the replacement first then call me to inform that I'll be getting the system next day (which is the case again). So now I have this L502x (that freezes up upon and 3D graphical use at random time), brand new L511z, and the replacement L502x to arrive in a few hours. If manager tells me that they can't do anything further I guess it is time for me to file a case to consumer affairs office?

As I said in other reply, Dell sends out the replacement first without notifying me. (I guess they are trying to force me to keep it) This has been going on for over a month and laptops are just accumulating in my house. And this time according to the manager, he had to get four different signitures from different departments for approval for this specific replacement (for whatever reason) so I'm afraid that this case will just drag on and my school starts in about 3 weeks.

Based on your last two posts, you've been patient enough with the support staff. You should ask to speak to another customer support manager (the current one does not seem to be doing their job very well), or you should contact their executive customer support department.

If they are sending out parts/replacement units willy nilly, clearly they do not know what they are doing. They should take in all the information you can provide (problems/symptoms, any kind of troubleshooting steps you have taken with them), determine what the cause is, and then issue sequential troubleshooting/replacement steps... one at a time, not all at once.

When my 1645 was overheating/throttling, I jumped through a few hoops with the CSR and troubleshooting, but when I contacted [email protected], things were resolved quite quickly. Definitely less than the 3 weeks you have left until school starts. I would recommend going that route. Best of luck!

My problem isn't limited to my system. It turns out that a lot of people are experiencing similar issues as you can check it out here. There are many more posts on Dell forums and as far as I can tell none of which have been answered by the Dell rep.

I went through five motherboards (3 in a single week, one of them failed out of the box) and complete reinstallations of OS for attempt to fix the issue.

And I will try to talk to the manager first and if he's unwilling to cooperate then I will send an email to that address. Thanks!

Dude, do not settle for that touchscreen. First of all, I have it, and it's a piece of expletive deleted. Second of all, I know for a fact they have 1080p screens available, because I'm getting one on Monday, and there's no reason they should be holding out on you. DO NOT accept an L502X that doesn't have it.

What the manager told me was that they do not have any 1080p panel in inventory at the moment (so is the backlit keyboard). So he will call me back on Monday for an update.

And one thing the manger told me was that they decided to take out Intel N 6230 w/ Bluetooth card because of the compatibility issues with the entire system. I thought that was kind of odd since they've been offering the upgrade to that card from N1030 for a while before they removed it.

*sidenote: Man, this replacement is HEAVY. Is this thing like 10 ponuds!? And I've found problems with it already. One problem is that mousepad has deadzones in it... Bleh, my luck with electronics lol.

I got a dell xps L502 i7, had to change the HDD, when I did and used a USB win 7 to boot from, it does not recognize the wifi or other usb ports ....

I tried installing vista, same problem, I did win7 32bit , still not recognizing wifi, even when I connect the cable it just does not go online.

I tried to install drivers from the Dell CD, but it only shows drivers for win7 64bit and even then, when I extract them and all, nothing works .....

Any idea where I am going wrong ?

I tried to contact Dell customer service, worst ever, hdd problems saying that my prob is software and not hardware for which I am not covered or I can pay 150 pounds for a 1 year software cover. I got a new HDD and now stuck...

    Any idea ?

Am I in the right forum ?

I have the touchscreen. I don't know if you have a bad model or what, but mine is fine.

How are you getting the 1080p screen? Are you replacing your touch or buying a new one? And how much will it cost?

It's free. They replaced my touchscreen twice and both were bad, and I told them, screw it--I don't want a touchscreen, I want the 1080p screen. I had made this request after the first touchscreen replacement, but they said it wasn't possible. Then, after TWO bad touchscreens, they were willing to do it.

The tech came just earlier today and replaced it, and man...this screen is gorgeous.

Oh ok. My touchscreen works perfectly, so they wont replace it, right?

And did you have the clicking problem on the top left hand corner or another problem?

I don't know what that means, but the problem with my screens (well, two of them; the third just had a discolored area) was that they would click all over the touchscreen, even when my hands were nowhere near any of the laptop's input devices. It wasn't isolated to one corner or anything, and it was annoying and completely unusable.

Speaking of my amazing NEW screen, how are y'all calibrating these things? It looks great in games, but on the desktop it's way too saturated. If I use the color-managed profiles linked in this thread, those only work in color-managed apps, right? I don't use Photoshop or Lightroom or anything, I just need a profile that works on the windows desktop, browser, etc.

Skyrim looks friggin' fantastic on this thing, though.
