Hi, I have a Dell XPS 1530 and at school, my computer connects to the wireless internet fine and has normal speed as if it were connected to an ethernet cord, but at home, it connects but is extremely slow. There are other laptops that connect to the router and they have fast speeds. My computer has vista home premium, 4 gb, intel core 2 duo cpu, t8300 @ 2.40 ghz. The router is a linsys wireless b router
Any help? Need any additional info just ask! Thanks :D

Is your home network secured? If not, someone might be leeching onto it. If not that, call your ISP... more than likely a problem on their end.

I don't know about that because we have 3 other laptops that have connected to the internet in our home and they all work at a normal speed. Even when none of them are using the internet (like now) it is still the same speed. I feel like it is a problem with my computer or something

Turn off your Bluetooth. I get quite poor performance, as soon as I turn off my Bluetooth, it's much better.

Are you sure it is connected to your own network? It happened to me last week that my laptop picked up my neighbor's wifi and it was only doing 2.0 mbps. Just a thought.

my guess is your wireless card is having trouble conencting with the B network, since its an N card, it has to switch from N to G to B, i have experienced this myself when using an N router with 2 computers: one with N and another with G, and the router will start to lag, and both computers will experience slowdown in connection speed.

maybe it would be a good time to get a new N router, they aren't pricey at all :D

    hope this helps!

I had the same problem with my XPS M1330.

Try connecting your laptop to AC and check if the wireless connection is slow or fast. If it's fast on AC, it's the power mode of the wireless adapter.

Go to Control Panel -> Energy options -> Change plan configutation -> Change advanced configuration

(new window) -> Wireless adapter config -> Energy savings -> Max performance on battery and AC

(my Vista install is in Spanish, I did an approximate translation)
