They have a sweet deal today for a fully loaded Dell XPS m1530 http://configure.us.dell.com/dellst...PNHD2&cs=19&kc=19&dgc=CJ&cid=24471&lid=566643

My main question is is 1920x1200 extreme for a 15.4 monitor? will it blind me and be noticably uncomfortable? or is it amazing? I would hate to get an amazing computer but hate the screen , i know higher is better but once again is this extreme. I will mostly be using this for work looking at pictures ect and gaming occasionally.

Also this is a good deal? looks like it is.

Dell Home has this very loaded XPS M1530 Laptop for $1788 - $589 off = $1199 with free shipping. Select free 9-Cell Battery if you want (it bulges out the back, as compared to the 100% form fitting 6-Cell Battery).

    Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz, 4GB DDR2, 320GB SATA, Slot-Load DVD+-RW

    256MB 8600M GT, 9-Cell Batt, 15.4" 1920x1200 LCD & 2MP Webcam

    10/100 + 56k + 802.11n, Vista Premium, 1-Yr Warranty, Audigy HD Audio

1920x1200 is a bit crazy for 15.4 imo... you will find it hard to read

I'd snap up the battery, it doesnt stick out horizontally, it acts as a sort of ramp - you get better battery life AND air circulation!
I started a thread looking for comparison pics, it's still on the first page - check it out.

I'd drop the res way down for two reasons:
    It's way OTT for a 15" screen.
Games will perform better on a lower resolution.

Isn't that Audigy yoke just software?
I'd drop it, if that doesn't (for some crazy Dell reason) bring up the price - but that's just me.

I think you are locked into the 1920x1200 if you want to buy the "10 Days of Dell Deals" XPS M1530, as I did (specs below).

Not really, you can lower the resolution for games to get better performance without getting the same kindof distortion you would for lowering the resolution for say, web browsing. Lowering the resolution for a game won't create that stretched fuzzy look that you are thinking of, so lowering a resolution in a game will allow it to perform better and still look as it would if the native resolution was what you lowered it to.

Go back and start with the base $999 system (don't select the Better or Best option) configure how you want it, then at the top of this webpage there is a link to Dell Coupons, click it, you will find a coupon that will lower you back to this price, that configuration is priced as it is and seems like a good deal cause they have automatically applied the coupon, you can fully configure the system, enter the coupon number yourself at checkout, and still get the savings, and get what you want.

Ok, I stand corrected - I though running a non-native res. would deteriorate the quality, as, unless I'm very much mistaken, LCD's have their own native res'

jaymes even if you start with the base system and configure the specs they have for 1199 and use that coupon it comes out a few hundred dollars more. This is a "special they are having today" and its only 1200 dollars. Check out my link at the top again and see whats included. I bet you cant get it to 1199 with that coupon. It said you ordered yours for 1450 and mine has better specs and its 1199.

No, you are correct, any kind of scaling will deteriorate quality. I assume jaymes is saying that you're not likely to notice it so much on a game, compared to a web browser where it's really obvious on the text etc.

Yep, your not gonna get quite that good of a deal with the coupon way, but if it offers more of what you want it may be the better option for you even if it is more money.

Gosh, why? Doesn't seem better...its like $400 more and all for the 9500 CPU. Bah!! Anyway, at least, to me the original deal OP listed is still better...

Just me though...others may still find your link help so thanks for posting it.

I just received my M1530 today and the Truelife LED-LCD screen is without question the most amazing notebook screen I've ever seen. It's even better looking than my buddies new Mac Book Pro.

Plus you wont have to worry nearly as much about the old style CCFL backlights going out.

Alright thanks for all the information , i guess im leaning towards passing up this 1199 deal. True i could configure this cpu myself and lower the resolution but it ends up costing 300+ more dollars and more tax. It feels odd downgrading a monitor and paying 300 more just in my opinion. Overall 2 people said that this resolution is way to high, if any more people have any input let me know thanks.
