    Hey Everyone:

I have a question. Could anybody tell me which one is better for XPS 1530, the LED 1440 x 900 or Full Hi Def LCD 1920 x 1200? I don't know which one to choose in terms of the overall quality. Thanks in advance!

definitely go for the LED backlight...the 1900x1200 screen on a 15.4 inch has micro sized text....unless u have super good vision, go for the LED backlight

If you'll be playing any modern games, definately go with the LED screen.

If they were the same price, I'd go for the hi-def. If text is too small, you can increase the size, but you can't increase screen real estate if things feel cluttered.

I wonder how much less energy efficient the 1900x1200 screen is compared the LED screen

thanks everybody!!! I prefer LED as well. But one of my friend, who works in a screen manufacture, told me that 1920x 1200 will have better clarity and you can view more details in a pic than 1440. Is there a big difference b/w 1440 and 1920?

If you are wanting your laptop now they aren't shipping the LED screens just now - don't know when they will have them - I just tried to order a LED screen for my 1530 and my order couldn't go through for the LED part :(

I actually returned my LCD 1 day after the LED came out. So I was probably one of the first ones to order LED.

The rep's seems pretty nice to me. What did he say when you wanted a LED?

I was only joking she was OK ;)

That it was 'red-flagged' when she tried to put it through. I asked if it was the configuration and what could I do to change it (nothing) as she wasn't clear on the reason ie they had run out?!
I asked when they would get them back in she said she didn't know so I just went ahead and ordered the same in a non LED as the $749 off was ending.

I think its a nice spec and am looking forward to it - just that niggling feeling of 'I didn't get it - it sucks' keeps playing in my head

oh by the way congrats for getting it!!

I didn't know I could return it if there is nothing wrong with it and change the spec.

I ordered my 1530 with the LED screen on April 29th. They took my order, however with an estimate of May 8th delivery, I'm still waiting for delivery. Dell called this morning to say my machine is on backorder with no estimate of delivery. arrrrraugh

Regarding the debate between LED 1440x900 vs. non-LED high-definition 1920x1200:

The LED LCD is more power efficient then the 1920x1200 screen, BUT I personally believe that difference cannot be by much because users on here have reported getting 5+ hours of battery life with a 9-cell on the 1920x1200 screen. That said, the LED will be brighter. Personally, I feel that if you're going to be watching movies or whatnot on the laptop frequently the higher resolution would be preferable.

Bchen06 recently got one and I'm sure would be willing to answer any of your questions.

In my opinion, the text is not too small on the 1920x1200s from what I have seen, but as someone posted, you can always adjust font size. I ordered the 1920x1200 but have yet to receive it.

I do agree with those that say the LED will be easier on the eyes in the long run - that is true. Once again, though, if you're going to be using your system for more multimedia-type endeavors, the higher resolution IMHO would be of more avail to you.

Very very interesting. My LED is in boxing stage, but has been there longer than most threads on NBR indicate (as well as the Dell rep says) it should be. Now I wonder if something is wrong?

    a) weight
    b) battery life
