I have a Dell XPS 1530 and I just got it a month back.

The problem is that there are scratches on the black thing below the control panel *not the control panel, the small black part below that*. There were scratches on the control panel too, but I solved it by removing the plastic thingy.

How to take care of them? They look really bad. I have a 3M Liquid Wax. Should I try a little bit of that?

And I didn't get any cleaning cloth? Can anyone please upload some picture of it. I had be indebted.

I know some people are told that the cloth is a promotional item...so not everyone gets one.

Did you get your system from the Outlet?

Can I use a Liquid Wax? The same I use to polish cars :) I tried that and it works. Is it safe to use it?

i had exactly the same problem a month back, i emailed dell, they said to send erm a pic, they sent the part and a engineer a day later - all sorted :)
the part you are refering to is all in one so the speaker grill and the capactive area (all the black) is one. Dell also refer that whole part to as the speaker grill and the center hinge cover :)

Really? What about the set of earbuds and the carrying case. Do those no longer ship with the XPS?

I recommend you use a microfibre cloth to clean it up. If you would would like to take some preventative measures try and invest in a clear sticker to put over the specific area so that future scratchs do not occur.

Hey..ouch the scratches :( ...I'm not sure about using *Liquid Wax*...

As, for the micro fiber cleaning cloth..you should call Dell and ask them to send you one. As, it didn't come with your system. ;) :)

not sure where you live but a 5 pack of nice microfiber at wal mart is only about 4$ in the auto section..

also 2 things you can use to polish that. one is a "glaze" compound made for auto finishes after they have been compounded and buffed, the other at your local wal mart is called scratch-out its made for clear coats and clear plastics but works well on all glossy plastics..

Why did you wait a month to do something about it???
Had you contacted Dell right after the fact, they would have sent you another replacement part and fixed the next day... as someone else did in an earlier thread here. ;)
