Hi there.
I'm planning on buying a new DELL XPS 1530 notebook form a local retailer since DELL doesn't ship to my country. I had picked a WSXGA+ 1680x1050 display (I know DELL has stopped supplying these screens at the moment, but I can still get one from the retailer's supply), but after reading around the forum about the "grainy" problem I'm conflicted whether I should still buy it. I cannot check the display until I've already purchased the notebook so there's no way I can make sure I get an LG or something that is problem-free. The alternative would be a non-LED WXGA+ 1440x900 and I'm not really fond of that.
Any advice? Thank you!

really happy with the LED 1400 x 900 screen, if that's an option, I would highly recommend it. It is a truly gorgeous display... and it is great as far as battery usage

Just got my 1530 today, it's got the 1920x1200 that I've heard can quite often be grainy... Not with mine! I'm happy as Larry with it! People also talked about the resolution is too small, but I'm having no problem with it; I prefer a higher resolution anyway. I did worry about it when I first started using it though; my eyes started feeling a little sore almost immediately, I thought "oh no, I'm going to have to return this and get a different screen", until I realised that the brightness was completely maxed out; turned it down and it's perfection!
The only annoyance I have with this, though, is the audio; it skips very slightly when I'm tasks such as raw file editing or anything that uses lots of cpu power... I assume it's a problem created by the fact that it's a built in sound card (didn't know about the option until today :-/), but does anyone know if there's anything I can do to combat it? Maybe increase the buffer size in Winamp? -
I finally decided to take a chance and order the 1680x1050 (and yes, I could have returned it if it was grainy) and I was pleasantly surprised to find a perfectly clear screen. It's still a Samsung, but I can't find anything wrong with it so I'm really happy with my choice. I now just have to tweak the settings.
Thank you all for your input on this matter. -

Interesting. So now Dell has 1920 x 1200 monitors that don't have grainyness?
Can you go into Hardware ID's and get the model number for your monitor please?
BTW, nice Sinead O' Connor pic from the Nothing Compares 2 U video.
