I can't record using a condenser mike plugged into the front panel mic jack of a Dell XPS 1530M. This machine has had Vista replaced with Win 7. The driver is: SigmaTel 2/15/2008 v. 6.10.0.5866

Using Audacity sound editing program, only the built-in microphones will record. Changing the default setting to 'Microphone/Line In' 'in Control Panel > Sound > Recording causes nothing to be recorded. In Audacity, Preferences > Devices > Line In/Microphone is enabled.

On a forum thread, someone-said to enable front panel mike using what is shown in his screenshot (see my attachment). I don't see that panel in any of the SigmaTel tabs on my machine. In that same thread, it is mentioned also about a pop-up occurring when a mike is plugged in. That doesn't happen.

    Any suggestions, please?

edit: this driver fixed the problem. The microphone now works.

Note: an additional restart is needed besides the first prompted by the new driver's software installation.
