Dell XPS 15z Trackpad Scrolling Problem

Is it just me, or is the Cypress trackpad hard to use?

I can't get consistent scrolling using two fingers or the scroll areas. I have even tried disabling all 2-finger and multi-finger gestures.

I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the driver with no luck.

Anyone else having these issues?

Uninstall cypress driver, use windows default one

No multi gesture, but it's very smooth to use

 

Is there any way to scroll (ex. 2 finger scroll or scroll areas) with the base driver installed or do you have to use the drag handles on scrollable windows?

Really? My 15z works perfectly with the Cypress drivers :/
2 finger is silky smooth, and 4finger works great too!

 

My 15z arrived last night and the Cypress touchpad is miserable (at least with the current driver) compared to my MBP. Here is what I am trying to get it to do, but can't seem to:

* Like bmzero, I am not getting consistent scrolling using two fingers. For example, in FF scrolling always ends up zooming out making fonts smaller. Scrolling works for a bit, but eventually the zooming starts.

* Cannot continue dragging with second finger. Example, double tap an icon and start dragging it, finger reaches end of touchpad , use second finger to continue dragging. This is the way the MBP touchpad works.

* Zooming out doesn't seem to work at all. The touchpad doesn't seem to recognize two-finger magnification zooming.

Are there any alternate / open source touchpad driver projects?

 

Dell has posted a updated touchpad driver here: Drivers & Downloads. If you installed a previous update there is a chance that the "new" driver installed over the old vs a cleaner uninstall/install which would have contributed to poor performance. This latest driver addresses the erratic cursor and touchpad diable issues.

Could someone help me uninstall cypress and use the windows? I uninstalled it, I thought, but didn't see the windows trackpack driver (only for the external mouse). Is there a windows trackpad driver that comes installed? If not, where do I get it from? Lastly, does it have the option for scrolling?

Have had same issues with my trackpad, dell installed new download of the previous driver, saying it is a temp fix and a new driver is coming out next month that will fix all the issues. Since the install of the earlier driver, it works great. no issues.

 

Here's a little more color on ann@dell's reply:

1) Find a USB mouse and plug it in. This will make the rest of this go so much easier (your trackpad isn't working, remember?).

2) Go to Dell's Driver's and Downloads section for the 15z, as she suggests. You need BOTH: a) The AO8 BIOS upgrade; and b) the 2.3.6.12, A04 Cypress Touchpad Driver.

Note: I have since noticed that there is an "optional" 2.3.6.26, A06 Dell-branded version of the touchpad driver up now. I haven't installed it and it wasn't needed to fix my trackpad.

3) Save to disk, but do not run, both downloads.

4) The Cypress installer (R313059.exe) didn't cleanly uninstall the previous version of the driver when I just double-clicked on it, so I explicitly uninstalled the Cypress Driver from the Control Panel then forced the Cypress installer to run as Administrator by right-clicking on it in Windows Explorer.

5) Run "as Administrator" the BIOS upgrader (L5112A08.exe). This is a scary installer that flashes the screen and beeps like an overloading phaser, but it ran fine.

After this, all trackpad features, including clicks, scrolling, and gestures, were working for me.

still having problems, replaced the palm rest and trackpad, updated drivers and bios still works like crap

 

This worked wonders for me. Having already upgraded to the newest bios a while ago, I removed the Cypress Touchpad Driver from add/remove software (it was the dell branded one). I also removed the device from Device Manager, just to be sure. Then I rebooted and installed the A04 Cypress drivers (not dell branded A06).

Two-finger scroll has now gone from being completely useless (jumpy and sometimes not even working) to being silky smooth. Amazing!

 

I am using the dell branded ones... the one that ends in .26 and its not working optimally. I will try a full un-install of the drivers and Install the a04 version, maybe that will help.

Urnst, can you test something for me (well anyone with the ao4)... I had them before and when i would stop the tap to click option and restart it would reset to default... can anyone test that and see if it still does that? I hate using the trackpad as a left mousekey.

 

I've been having the same problems. The vertical scroll on my trackpad would work fine for a while then lose all response. Sometimes randomly scrolling on its own. Dell support has installed and uninstalled various drivers with no luck. I found this website tonight while online with dell support. Can anyone tell me how to go about removing the cypress drivers and allowing the windows drivers to operate the touchpad? Also, when using the windows drivers will vertical scroll on the trackpad still function? Thank you and sorry for the long post.

Edit: I'm not talking about to finger vertical scrolling as I mostly use single finger vertical scrolling.

 

Ok. I cant find the Cypress A04 driver, so I uninstalled all teh drivers for the cypress touch pad, leaving only the driver in windows. 2 finger scroll works great, as does one finger scroll. No more jumping of teh cursor, or anything.

 

I didn't know that Windows had a built in driver for 2 finger scrolling.... can you confirm this...

Its all good, thats what I thought. I use 2 finger scrolling all the time and cant give that up just yet. I tried the uninstall and attempted the 1 finger scolling... just could not get used to it.

 

I uninstalled all teh Cypress drivers, and reinstalled the A04 driver, and it worked fine for 1 day. Uninstalled again, and working the windows driver until another option becomes availible.

 

The flakey trackpad is a total bummer, hopefully they can come up with something to get it to work better.... I usually can't wait to get home and plug in my "real" mouse, lol. On a sidenote, I am pretty interested in picking up that new logitech touch mouse that was recently unveiled.

 

XPS 15z Trackpad Scrolling has been solved with the release of Version Cypress 2.5.3.65, A07 released on 4/10/2014
It is working very well on Windows 8.1......for those who still have the laptop and problem with the track pad.
Initially I gave up but I just wanted to have it back working, so, I did a bit of search and came up with the above solution.
