I am planning on upgrading my stock hdd for a 1tb one and was wondering if anyone here had any recommendations as to which hdd I should get.
Does the standard 3.5 hdd fit as well?
I am also having overheating issues (the computer would overheat and crash) sometimes when I just watch netflix on my lap rather than a table (i think blocking the fans).
These issues occurred after I added an ssd and took out the dvd drive so I'm guessing its a thermal paste issue. Can I just apply normal thermal paste to the spot and how much should I apply?
Also has there been any new battery upgrades?
    Thanks in advance.

You need a standard 2.5" hard drive.

I would put the big data drive in the optical bay, and have the SSD in the main HD bay, because the main bay is faster (SATA3)

As far as heat goes, if you just pulled out the DVD drive and put a drive caddy in, you shouldn't have messed with any of the thermal paste, so I doubt that's the issue. It's more likely the air flow problem you mention. I'd proabably just blow air back through the fan vent when you've got the bottom of the unit off to clear any dust that might be blocking the heatsink. That and keep the bottom clear when you're using it in on a soft surface, maybe put a book under it or something.

    Hi,

You may use a can of compressed air to clean the air vents. Also please check the current BIOS version in the system and update if a later version is available. Please find below the link for the Dell drivers download page, you may use the same for downloading the BIOS.

Also for more information about applying the thermal paste you will find many videos online. You may refer to the same.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks and regards,
