I have an XPS 1640 which I purchased used. I wiped everything except the OEM partition and installed Windows 7 64-bit. I also updated drivers, updated the BIOS to the April 2011 version, and reinstalled software from the Dell website, including PowerDVD DX, and then did the updates for Power DVD.

The DVD/Blu-ray drive can read data discs (I have installed Windows and several applications) and play standard-format DVDs. However, with blu-ray, it plays previews, and then reaches the main feature menu screen and basically freezes.

I ran a diagnostic prior to startup and it returned an "Error Code 2000-152" from the optical drive.

The blu-ray problem appears to be the only problem with the laptop's functionality at this point, and I'd really like to find a fix.
