Okay..I'm really sick of this laptop now.The number of problems which have occured over the last 6 months involving two different 1645's is absolutely astounding.
USB ports not working,Random Freezes, Random Shutdowns, Throttling

How is Dell getting away with this ?

The latest problem is that my laptop speakers have just stopped working.
I plugged in my earphones today and after I pulled them out, the speakers have never come on after that. The IDT Audio Panel showed that the Headphone was connected even though it was not connected.
However music comes through the speakers when I run the tests in Diagnostic mode.
Now, Ive upgraded my bios, Latest A18 IDT driver in the dell website and tried reinstalling the old drivers too. No luck at all.
Too make it worse, the IDT application itself, where you could change settings and stuff doesnt exist anymore on my laptop.

Anyone here have any solutions ?
I remember the good work done here by a lot of people during throttlegate and the issue of underpowered adapters.
I really hope someone can help me out.

Also, can anyone tell me the chances of getting a refund on my laptop ?
This present laptop is already a replacement of an earlier 1645 and is close to 3 months old.

Thanks and sorry for the long post !

I had this problem on my Dell Inspiron 1420. The following thread references 1420's and 1520's, but I would put money on the problem being the same thing.

    No audio from internal speakers.

There are two solutions. Get Dell to replace the headphone-jack board. Or, pull the board out and try cleaning with with an electrical contact cleaner.

I pulled the board out of my 1420, completely submereged it in CRC contact cleaner and shook it around a bit. Took it out, dried it off, reassembled the laptop and it works perfectly.
