    I just did an upgrade to my laptop and I'm having a a couple issues.

    When the computer first starts up it passes the windows logo, and then a black screen is shown (no cursor) for a good 5 minutes. Then it advances to the login and everything works perfectly.

    If the computer goes to sleep though I get a windows BSOD saying driver_irql_less_than_or_equal.

    I have tried installing all of the dell drivers possible as well as some some not listed on the dell 1645 driver page.

    The ones I tried installing that arent on the official 1645 driver page:

    - ati radeon drivers from ati
    - synaptics drivers
    - bluetooth 380 drivers, supposed to be 370 I believe but it seems to only be 380 available which people say works.

    I also tried running the intel chipset automatic check, which said I was on the latest.

    What else can I do?

    Hi,
    So as far as I see you had Windows 7 installed and upgraded it to Windows 8.
    While upgrading did you format the hard drive? like doing a clean install?
    You should not have any problems, the XPS 1645 is not that old and Winodws 8 should work fine.
    I installed on a Presario CQ61 laptop with Turion II M500 processor and no problems at all, is working perfect.

    My wife's XPS 1645 has been running fine with Win8, but then we did the nuke-it / clean-install path, not an in place upgrade.

    If you did an in-place install I'd advocate manually removing / uninstalling *all* hardware drivers - and then restarting the load from that point. And I mean *everything*. I think the only Dell driver I *had* to install was for the Dell 1510 wifi, everything else was supported natively in Win8.

    Of course doing this may not resolve anything as the system has already built itself around the pre-existing driver set. {shrug}
