Hi everyone! I want to upgrade the hard drive in my laptop to a SSD and I just wanted to know if the Dell XPS 1647 uses a SATA II or SATA III.

No need to spend extra money on a SATA III if my laptop can't even use it right?

    Thanks in advance!

1647 only supports SATA 2. If you buy a SATA 3 SSD, you will be able to utilize if you move it into a newer laptop. Otherwise it will operate at its SATA 2 operation speed (usually significantly slower than advertised SATA 3 speeds).
