    Hello all

I have a fan issue with my XPS 17, when it reaches about 55c, the fan kicks in fast then stops then starts then stops constantly, it's REALLY annoying....

Any ideas how to fix this? I might send it back to Dell as I can't put up with it....

I've tried all sorts, even running on power saver it does it, charger out/in everything I've tried doesn't sort it.

    Please help :(

Wow, so an important application such as HWmonitor and real temp and MSI Afterburner, what I use all three of, can't be used because they mess around with the fan!

That is a joke! I need those programs open....

Beginning to think I've made a bad purchase with this laptop only had it 3 days....

Doesn't speedfan or I8kfanGUI work with this model? I really need Real Temp running..

hwmonitor works fine with no fan interference untill i enter and exit a power hungry app like a game then as you say it stops it starts and keeps doing this untill i close the program.

Havent tried those programs, sorry :/

Thanks for the info, I can't understand how Dell would make the laptop work in such a way, this is my first Dell machine...

Oh well I got a few days to completely decide on it.

It is a bit strange why it does that but none the less i think its a solid machine, the 555m is pretty good for gaming also at no more than 900p IMO. Overclocks well to.

Yeah the gpu aint bad at all, nothing compared to my desktop though, big difference, but 720p gaming is pretty good, Skyrim, MW3 etc, BF3 runs like crap though haha.

What you talking about? the gt 555m will completely OWN 2 gtx 560 ti's in sli into the ground! lol just joking ;)

But yeah you cant expect to run massively demanding games at native res with decent fps.

Nice broadband speed btw, wish i was on virgin media. Im on some crappy bt line with 2.00mb/s lol, no fibre optic where i live yet :(

I use MSI afterburner with zero issues. Doesn't cause my fan to do anything.
GPU set from 590 to 725. Memory from 900 to 1000. No issues at all and Skyrim run great. Yes i do run it in 720p, but it looks so much better than it looks on my sons xbox and 42" 1080p TV.

why not run it at 900p? i do and without overclock, get about 44fps average outside with high settings and aa off and fxaa on.
