Dell XPS 18 with Haswell and better than 1080P Resolution

I really want to buy a Dell XPS 18 for reading and browsing at home as well as work but the two things keeping me from buying one is the lack of Haswell and a better than 1080P screen.

Anyone know when the XPS 18 will be updated with Haswell? I'm really surprised they are still selling this with 3rd generation processors and have not updated the XPS 18 with Haswell. It's going to be one incredible tablet to use with Haswell and a SSD drive.

With an 18" display it can certainly support a better resolution display. My 10" Nexus 10 tablet has a 2560X1440 resolution and the upcoming 13" Samsung ATIV Q has a 3200X1800 resolution. The higher resolution is going to make graphics on screen super crisp and photos look absolutely incredible with great clarity. I'm surprised Dell has yet to offer any tablets or laptops with better than 1080P resolution. 6 years ago I could buy a Dell with a 1900X1200 resolution (better than 1080P) and since then everything has been 1080P. I hope Dell releases a high end tablet with a better than 1080P resolution.

I'd pay anything dell wants for such a device. An Active digitizer would also be really nice!

 

I'm in the same boat over here in Pennsylvania. Waiting for the XPS 18 to move to Haswell and without a clue as to when that might happen and what configurations we'll be seeing. (Not so) patiently waiting. If anyone learns anything out there, I'd love to know.

I do a bit of HD video editing and I'll want the best Harddrive/GPU/CPU/Ram configuration I can muster. It's always a compromise at the edges when I try and get a computer that'll do "everything", so ... very excited that this might be a big improvement over my five year old XPS M1330. The move towards watching video in bed, etc., and going mobile, which began when I moved off the Desk Top to a Mobile Lap Top for work and play about five years ago, makes me aware how the larger 1080p screen is of great "practical" use. I just don't want to get caught in a video crunching quagmire with slow graphics, etc.

 

I'm not a fan of Windows scaling. Anything over 100% makes some dialog boxes look weird, text not centered where it's supposed to be, larger than normal window frames and title bar fonts, etc.
I have a Macbook Pro 15 Retina display with bootcamp, and in Windows 7, if I choose 100% I get everything so teeny tiny on the 2880x1800 display. 150% scaling is better, but some apps (like Chrome browser and a lot of app dialog boxes) aren't programmed
to use dpi scaled fonts and show somewhat fuzzy versions of fonts. Looks like Windows 8.1 doesn't have any new technology that makes super-high resolutions look native and scale properly.

I had an Alienware M18xR2 with 1080p display that just looked fantastic. If the XPS 18 is anything like that, I'll be happy enough.

 

Windows 8.1 will have better scaling.

Screen resolution is subjective. While some may feel 1080P is a high resolution others can be more productive with a higher screen resolution. If there was an option to pay more, I'd opt for a higher resolution screen. My Nexus 10 tablet is only 10" and has a 2560X1440 display and that resolution is quite useable. My cellphone has a 1080P display. I'd like something higher than 1080" on an 18" display. I can see individual pixels on an 18" display at 1080P.

 

I think that really only applies to larger display PC's...those with 27 and 30" screens that can actually utilize the extra pixels across a larger display. On a small screen device, that many pixels translates to screen objects and fonts too small to see, unless you're merely using the extra pixels for scaling. If so, I don't see the advantage when it come to being more productive. Sure, it looks nicer, but are you really going to perform pinpoint high-res photo editing you'd normally do on dual 27" display, on a 10" tablet ??

 

Any news yet on the XPS 18 being available with Haswell? What is taking Dell so long.

 

Im waiting also..... downgrading from my 680m m18x r2 to this but not gonna do it till haswell comes to the xps 18!

 

Just chatted with a dell sales rep who confirmed the system is receiving a Haswell update in the coming weeks Hope this proves true.

 

What happened? Almost two months later and no Haswell?
